You might want to invest in a few big “NO SOLICITING” and “NO RELIGIOUS SOLICITING” signs. I’ve read that JWs and Mormons disregard the “no soliciting” signs because they believe they’re not selling anything, so that’s why I suggested the “no religious soliciting” sign in addition to the other one. Also, can you disable your doorbell?
What I have found is that JWs have a problem with respect. They want you to respect the fact that they are JWs but they fell to respect the fact that your religion is different from thiers. One told me that I was studying from the wrong bible and that thier bible was the true one:hypno:

Why not welcome them and present the gospel of the grace of God to them? They deserve to hear the true gospel, too.

You sound just like my gramgram that is what I did when they told me that my bible was wrong. About every two weeks they leave a booklet at my door if they don’t ring my bell.Yet, I have never once been rude to them and if it is hot I give them something to drink. :)I know that this is bad but I wish I knew where they lived so that I could leave some booklet at thier door. 🙂

Next time they come, ask them where they live. Tell them you will be by at 4:00 a.m. to ring their doorbell and present your faith. Tell them your faith involves bagpipes.

My mother absolutely hates it when people come to the door evangelizing. Ironically, she’s athiest, but the one thing that really erks her about JWs is their refusal to be patriotic. So when they visit, she says “I’ll listen to your speech if you salute the flag of your country.”

Then they turn and walk away. Awesome! 👍

LOL Nice! 😃

Well actually we don’t have to worry because I have a sign declaring this to be a catholic house on the door no other litterature is necessary. Ironically some of them didn’t get it and left litterature anyway. Now we have no trespassing signs outside that does the trick.
A friend of mine told me about what they do in Samoa for JWs and Mormons is the group all starts saying the rosary and soon the person leaves. I had a funny experience like that once. I was saying the rosary when a JW came to the door i was saying the rosary and didn’t want to lose my place so I kept on going silently. Pretty soon the JW noticed the beads and asked what they were i told her they were a rosary. She asked what do you do with it. I told her I used it to pray. She asked what I was praying for and I replied your conversion. She quickly ended the conversation and left. To show you how into the rap some of these folks get, i had a friend who had two women come to his door first thing in the morning so all he was wearing was his bathrobe. When the woman handed him her litterature the robe flew open and the woman kept on going without missing a beat.😃

I think we should not be acting like hypocrites here. We know damn well that their religion is a cult but we should not blame them for that. They may not know that what they are involved in is a complete heresy. What is important is that we may learn something good from what they are doing. Many are doing this with an innocent heart, i.e to preach the “truth” (their truth of course).

Like all JW’s and LDS missionaries they expected humiliation and hardship from doing this. They believe that this is part of evangelization. We must look at them with a positive attitude. Instead of condemning or judging them, we should look at ourselves. What have we done for Jesus for dying on the cross for us. Are we willing to sacrifice our times into hardship to go and preach his words to others. Are we loving others as we love ourselves. If we do what Jesus really wanted us to which is to love one another, then we may bring light to these JW’s and LDS. But if we show them hatred and condemnation, no wonder they kept referring to the Magdalene story and Jesus writing on the ground.

God Bless

NO ONE has a ‘right’ to insist you abandon a sick family member to listen to their spiel.

I have never thought about this one. It could scare some of them away.

:rotfl:

Tetiaroa, I certainly agree with what you’re saying, to look at them positively.

The problem comes in when they act no better than a smarmy salesman.

I had some JWs come to my apartment one night when I was alone. Having been attacked before, I am not so eager to simply let anyone (man OR woman) into my home. Especially not in the area I currently live in. If I don’t know who is knocking at my door, I don’t care if they know I’m home, I will NOT answer the door.

These two women knocked on my door. I got up and looked through the peep hole. I didn’t know them, I was alone, and I was not expecting anyone. So I sat back down. They knocked again. A little harder. They KEPT INSISTING and knocking louder and harder.

I know what they want and it is my prerogative as to whether I choose to waste my time with them. To insist by their ever louder and insistent knocking that I get up to answer to them is rude on their part. I really don’t care if they think they are on a mission. So is Satan. Should I get up to answer his insistent knocking?

Then they had the audacity to SHOVE their literature between the door and the door jam. Before they finished, I snagged it and threw it away. If they do that again, I WILL open the door and tell them to take their trash with them.

I realize this may seem hostile, but when they are not charitable enough in their own right it really turns other people off. Rarely have I seen a JW act “Christian.” And I don’t have to tolerate that. Nor does anyone else who doesn’t want to.

At any rate, you do ask some tough and hard questions about us and what we do to evangelize. I admit that I am no where near to living up to that.

i have another great JW story to share:
I met a nun once after mass and we got to talking and she told me what they do. She is from a contemplative order so that mostly what they do is pray and study so, they have time to cross reference and study the magazines and books left at the back door to their convent (which doesn’t lokk like a convent door). Most of these women also have at least Masters degrees including some in theology and philosophy bright women well armed intellectually. When the JW comes to the door they invite them in for milk and cookies, which she gleefully remarked followed by “last rites” since they taketurns debating them.:D:nun1::nun2::highprayer::rotfl: usually leaving them never wanting to come back there again!

it took me more than 20 minutes to get the proper info but, if that site listed doesn’t go directly go to sacred scripture forum look for thread Jesus interrupted …what do you make of this? Go to post # 5 Mark 77 and click on the link there. i went to it as I’d written it down & it didn’t go straight there. If it gives you an error message at the colberg site put in bert ehrman and it should come up anyway:takethat:

I could disable the doorbell, but why should I? I do want to hear from normal people. 🙂 (I don’t consider door-to-door religion salespeople normal, whatever their religion.) Wouldn’t the JW’sjust knock anyway.

Do the JW’s respect the “No Religious Solicitation” signs? I have a feeling they wouldn’t.

Maybe “JW’s will be fed to the pit bulls” is a better sign. 😉
:hmmm:I was out yard-saling a couple of summers ago, & when I took a wrong turn, I came to house with a sign out front that said: “Harley-Davidsons only; all others will be shot!”…hmmmm…:newidea:

:DI’m afraid that if they said that to me, I would be unable to keep from snapping back, “Liar, liar, pants in fire!”😃

😃 There is a really funny monologue by Les Barker, performed by Allan Beswick, called ‘Jehovah’s Witness at the Door’ which describes the havoc caused on a quiet English street early one morning by a pair of Jehovah’s Witnesses ( they’re never seen singly 🙂 ) It makes me smile every time I hear it:D

Unwanted solicitation is against some city laws. So is littering, if pamphlets are left up and down the street in people’s doors… perhaps a sign citing the local ordinance prohibiting littering and solicitation would help, rather than a ‘please do not disturb sign’?

I personally just look out the window or peephole, and I don’t answer the door, but that doesn’t help when you’ve already been woken up from a sound sleep!

Sounds like a definte laugh, don’t suppose you have a website or anything so I could hear it ? I’ll have to see if google will save us here. I’ve picked up stuff from UK before with it.

I think that when dealing with cult members, it is best to remember that they are people too. Of course, they should remember that we are people as well and try to be more respectful than to come knocking on doors when people are obviously asleep.
