It is going to be an uphill battle for those who want abortion legalised. You admit this is not about legal abortion so this woman’s death had nothing to do with an abortion so why did you say if she had an abortion _____

If you think pro life movement is not pro women you should see the work the pro life movement does with post abortive women who are physically and mentally scarred
If abortion were legal there wouldn’t have been a question about saving her.

As horrible as this situation is if her death shines a light on just how far these people are willing to go in holding women’s bodies hostage to the state then it won’t be for nothing. This demonstrates what so many of us have known for so long about these activists: that women will never be equal in worth to a fetus. And the fact that even in some developed countries that attitude still prevails is scary and sad.

1 moment you are saying if she had an abortion it would saved her, another moment you are saying abortion’s legality is not the issue

Again, you do not know for sure if she had an abortion she would of been saved

Abortion is not a medicine and it is known that miscarriage (although it is known fully if she had a miscarriage) and infection can be treated with medical treatment

Know? Of course not. Can reasonably assume? Yes.

The legalization of abortion is important, yes. But before that can be accomplished the real life consequences of the pro life mentality and agenda have to be made known. So yes, indirectly it is about ultimately securing that basic right and freedom for all women.

If that happened to me I would want there to be a media storm to raise awareness. At this point the only thing that can be done is for people to work to ensure that another woman and family never goes through this.

This study found maternal mortality rates are higher in Scotland, English and Wales where abortion is legal compared to Ireland. Suicide rates, breast cancer and a ranger of other disorders are lower in Ireland. Ireland has higher ferility rate compared to much of Europe which has declining ferility rates

Danish study - they reviewed medical records for 1st pregnancies for nearly 500000 women between 1980 and 2004. Researchers focused on maternal mortality with 1st pregnancy only. They compared records to abortion register and death register. They found women who gave birth had lower mortality preganncy associated rates than women who had later or early abortion from time measures, 180 days to 10 years. Rsearchers found abortions take that place before 12 weeks had a 80% higher risk of mortality in 1st year, 40% higher risk over 10 year

Chilean study compared maternal mortality rates when abortion was legal and when it was illegal and in the 14 years after it was made illegal maternal deaths declined by nearly 70%

Study after study confirms abortion increases the rate of maternal mortality, child birth decreases the rate. Abortion is not good for women

Who are those who are pro abortion denouncing sex selection abortion in China and elsewhere which preferences girls to be aborted? I see pro lifers educating people in India, China etc why a baby should not be aborted based on gender and campaigning for a a change in law. Have heard no denouncements from those who are pro abortion

Where are the voices for those who are pro abortion denouncing China for its 1 child policy and forced abortion? Nowhere to be seen. Pro lifers are the people fighting for the right of these women to keep their baby
If you really think that then you have not been paying attention. Everyone has denounced China’s one child policy. That even includes Planned Parenthood (they even have a page on their website that talks about how wrong it is).

Here’s the difference: even if a few select studies do show abortion to be more dangerous (which I highly doubt) it has no bearing on this incident. A woman chooses to undergo an abortion and risk the consequences. This woman didn’t have a choice. She made it clear that she wanted to live, but the hospital staff decided that she would die. Her wants, the wishes of her husband, her healthcare, and her family were all disregarded when they took it upon themselves to condemn her to death. That’s what I have a problem with. It would be a different story if she chose to sacrifice herself, but she didn’t. Both her and her husband were denied the choice of whether or not her life was fought for.

Planned Parenthood employees have been caught cooperating in sex selection abortion in exposes by Live Action in the US. Planned Parenthood denounce the 1 child policy in China on their website but International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is tied to Planned Parenthood Federation of America. IPFF has worked in China since 1983. IPFF say
The China Family Planning Association (CFPA) plays a very important role in China’s family planning programme. It supports the present family planning policy of the government, which is appropriate for the present national situation
CFPA founding organisation statement says
“[t]he association will implement government population control policies”
CFPA became a full member of IPFF in 1983. CFPA works with the Chinese government

Former IPFF director general Gill Greer did a 2009 interview with Xinhua news agency
By adopting the population control policy, Greer said, China has reduced its population growth rate and alleviated problems from overpopulation.
“Thus, the policy is very conducive to China’s development in various aspects such as economy, education and health care services,” she said.
Maternal mortality studies are not selective. When many studies show the same thing you can not denounce them as untruthful

There seems to have been a failiure at the hosptal, but it was not than abortion did not take place. Irish law allows doctors to induce labor even if that led to the indirect death of the baby and apparantly the doctors did not and that is a failiure but it has nothing to do with abortion. Claiming only if she had an abortion she could of been saved does nothing to solve the issues of failure in following Irish law at the hospital

This is what I’m gathering as well…but we all know that a newspaper headline that states that a Catholic hospital killed a woman because she was denied an abortion is much more effective at maligning the Catholic stance on abortion.

Goodness, this is like the fifth or sixth thread in the past two or three days on this exact same case. 😦

The Description by the husband of the woman who died explains what happened.

The woman came to the hospital on Sunday already far along in the miscarriage. Doctors treated her with antibiotics to prevent infection. They expected her to deliver within hours.

However, she did not. The doctors would have hastened delivery, but she was otherwise fine.

Wedensday night she showed some signs of infection, Thursday tye baby died and the mother was operated on. After the operation she began gettting sicker and sicker, and iirc Friday she was put into the ICU.

On Friday, the doctors told the family she would recover, but she died the following day.

So, the doctors did not “choose between the mother and the unborn baby.” The doctors chose not to commit an immoral act, because there was not a proportionate reason to (indirectly) hasten the death of the fetus. This was because the mother was doing well.

Doctors are only able to make decisions based on their current knowledge. Yes, it would be nice if they could see into the future, but they can’t, being only human like the rest of us.

She was in the process of miscarrying. Because the hospital refused to expedite it she got a blood infection and died. There was no hope for the baby and the hospital let the mother die to prove how “moral” they are. Last time I checked valuing the life of a fetus that is being miscarried over that of a woman is anything but moral.

Hopefully though her death won’t be for nothing. I hope this shows the world exactly what the “pro-life” movement really means for women.
It won’t, because what those doctors did is a disgrace and does not represent what the pro-life movement means.

Inducing labor =/= abortion, even if the former removes any hope of survival for the infant. In fact, inducing labor to remove that woman’s child was the standard procedure the doctor should have followed even in Irish law.

Their decision killed that poor woman, and there is no defense for those doctors. They ought never to be allowed to practice medicine again.

But this has nothing to do with the pro-life movement.
