CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — Fox 8 went inside the home where a car crashed through the front window, pinning a wife and mother-of-two Thursday morning.

Mary Nime, 38, was sitting in a rocking chair, clipping coupons, when a car driven by a 65-year-old neighbor went right through the stop sign at Richmond and Issaquah streets, and kept going, crashing into Nime’s living room.

“Coincidentally, she was [sitting] in between these two pictures. One is the Virgin Mary, the other is Jesus and those were from my grandmother who passed away. Blew her right in between them and those are the only two things that stayed on the wall,” explained Nime’s sister-in-law, Beth Genovese.

Friday, the Nime family invited Fox 8 cameras to come inside while they picked up the pieces.

Holes in the drywall mark the spot where Mary’s body was pinned.

A piece of the car’s headlight now lies in the family room. A bench from the front porch is buried in rubble in the living room, along with a century-old sewing machine—a family heirloom.

The staircase is completely destroyed.

“You see your childhood home and everything you own, destroyed. That really doesn’t bother me. Mary’s gonna be okay. Everything else can be replaced,” says Nime’s husband, Ed.

He was at work when he got the call and rushed to Akron City Hospital to be by his wife’s side.

“It’s her but it’s not her. You feel helpless because you can’t take away any of the pain,” he explains.

But Ed says his wife finds strength in her faith, and perhaps, a little divine intervention.

“The car coming in at an angle was a godsend, because if it would have come straight through the house, we’d be dealing with not having a mother and a wife,” he says.

Mary Nime is still in intensive care with head injuries. Her family says she is improving, but is expected to be hospitalized for some time.

The driver of the car was treated and released.

The Summit County Metro Crash Team is still investigating.

I heard about this! My cousin lives near there. Prayers for that lady’s full recovery!!

Prayers for Mary’s full recovery.

I live in western New York state, and we have had a spate of vehicular crashes into buildings during the past year, there have been at least twenty-five:eek:! Most of them resulted in minor injuries, but there were a couple of fatalities.

But the wildest story I’ve heard in the past year was just off the Southern Tier Expressway. Much of the highway is elevated above natural grade, and the region is hilly.

A drunk driver went off the highway and the car started down the embankment, only to be stopped by a large sign that apparently has been there for years. The sign post stopped the car from going another hundred feet down and possibly into a small river. The driver was slightly injured, was treated in the emergency room and released to police custody.

The sign reads: “Jesus Saves.”
