Almost every morning we see dead deer on the side of the road. Almost every evening we see deer trying to cross the road. They can go through windshields if they are hit just at the right time (and that kills people). The bodies can cause accidents if they are in the middle of the road (and some of them are also pretty disgusting to look at). They also are responsible for quite a bit of crop damage.

From the article:

A marksman with a shotgun has been hunting the deer because of an increase in the number of car accidents and near misses with the animals on local roads. The deer meat has been used to stock a food pantry.
Interesting.

These women care more about the deer than the people.

So in their minds deer outrank people in rights.

Rockville Center is out on Long Island, New York.

Hmmm.

One of the local radio talk show celebrities in morning drive time is Ron Cubi (sp?). He’s on WABC 770 from 5am to 10am M-F, as I recall. The show is called “Curtis & Cubi”.

ANYWAY, Cubi could possibly be called “left wing”. He was Kunsler’s law partner, yadda, yadda, yadda. His CV is public information. For years on the radio, he derided people who live in “whitelandia”. A real character.

ANYWAY, so now Cubi has some money … and where, oh, where does he buy a house??? Why, out in “whitelandia” of course.

And this patron of liberal causes, Mr. Cubi, when someone brought up the subject of deer … went … well “ballistic” would be an understatement. He publicly refered to Bambi and her ilk as “roaches on hooves”.

Ahhhhhh, yes!

Delightful!

Actually, you do need good markmanship skills to hit the target (in this cas a deer) with a shotgun.

For example it is very challenging to hit a target at 50 yards using a 12 gauge shotgun with rifled slug. If using a sabot slug with a fully rifled barrel the marksman (depending on his or her skill level) could have good accuracy at 100yards.

Regarding buck shot, A 12 Ga with 2 3/4 inch shell and 00 buckshot contains typically 12 to 16 individual shot. Thus, you really do have to aim in order to hit your target. It is a good idea to think of your shotgun as a rifle, so aim.

For prcatice on a moving target I suggest finding a public range with sporting clays. Try for yourself to see how easy or how challenging using a shotgun is.

You can find out more about safe gun handling and good marksmanship at the NRA web site.

Also look up you local shooting range in the yellow pages.
I have never heard of hunters using buckshot for deer. They use a “deer slug” load for goodness sake. It is a larger slug than a rifle, has a lower muzzle velocity and hits tirh greater force. Buck shot, unless you are just a few feet away, would only injure a deer, like it would a human. A deer slug is more likely to bring them down with the first shot.

Are these women Catholic? Or are they just anti-Catholic PETA protestors? (Okay, I know “anti-Catholic” and “PETA” is redundant.) Sounds like PETA tactics to me.

 I don’t see why an anti-Catholic would necessarily be a PETA supporter, or vice versa.
While certainly not all anti-Catholics are PETA members, PETA is a pagan/animistic quasi-religious organization. While the name says, “People of the Ethical Treatment of Animals” they actually promote equality of animals with people. They are inherently anti-Christian. Their philosophical founder was an Australian John Kinsella, a poet and anarchist who was very anti-religious.

I agree with the above description of PETA, although I would say they raise animals ABOVE human level.

They are just fine with the human population being eradicated for the sake of making more room for animals.

PETA is PETA’s own worst enemy IMNSHO.

**That said, I love deer. And I like deer meat. If it’s just the guns they have problems with, my dh has a buddy with a ragged pick-up that wouldn’t show any the worse for having hit a deer. What an economical and religious way to stock the freezer! Go for an early Sunday drive to Mass or maybe a late night adoration and get rewarded with a venison for the year! Personally, I would think a quick shot by a marksmen would be more accurate and therefore less painfull, but hey if the ladies really think the truck is more humane…😛 **

Wow, Kubi said that? Do you think he realizes that he is slowly turning into everything he has made a career at hating?

Yes … Kubi actually said that… his very own exact words… I could not have made that up!! Deer are roaches with hooves.

Perhaps … “old age” and a decent paycheck have mellowed him. Maybe he spent a ton of money at the local garden center … for new bushes and plants.

NOT ONLY THAT… But Kubi actually married his beloved Marilyn!!! … are you ready for this … AFTER THE TERRI SCHIAVO CASE!!!

Keep praying and Kubi may yet convert to Catholicism!!!

I don’t see why they arrested them. Let them stay chained to the door. By morning, they’ll know what it’s like to be out in the deer woods, sitting still, at O-Dark Thirty in the morning when the temperature is around zero degrees.😃
In that case, they probably would have sued the diocese for reckless abandonment, or something.

Where I live, there are far too many deer, and mountain lions are coming into the country for the first time in a century and more, because deer are their major food source. I’m sure they haven’t made it to NY yet, but they have made it to the Mississippi, so you all had better start raising your deer quotas and extending your hunting season before it’s too late. They are definitely mankillers.

I suspect if those ladies espied a mountain lion coming toward them, licking his chops, they would have unlocked those chains in a hurry, gotten inside the church and prayed for hunters!

Just when you think you’ve heard it all. More examples of modern day pharisees and scribes.

There’s a time & a place for (most) things - what is not explained, is why they chose there in particular; but to provide that sort of explanation is (surely ?) one of the functions of journalism.

Neither is it explained why the diocese should be involved, or what the diocese is supposed to do about the gunman.

How strange ##

Not really:
Two women were arrested after they chained themselves to the front doors of a Catholic diocese building to protest the authorized killing of deer on church property.
And:
Guelke and Therese Ferreira chained themselves to the entrance of the Diocese of Rockville Centre offices to protest the deer cull at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception and in Caumsett State Historic Park.
(Emphasis added, in both cases.)

makes me wonder what those young ladies were high on. Sarcasm intended.

They need to chain themselves to an abortion clinic.

Having hit an 8 point buck with my car… yeah, they can do some serious damage and I wouldn’t hesitate to hunt them. And besides, the article shows that the meet went to a food pantry. So good came out of it. (not that I think hunting is bad, don’t get me wrong)

BTW… the first question out of my DH and my best friend after hitting the buck was “So, did ya keep it??? Where is it?” grr…
