Women--how do you feel about your husband seeing a female physician?

I usually seek out a female physician. In general, they tend to be better listeners. When you walk in with several things that you want to tell the doctor, the men tend to interrupt after the first item and try to solve that problem. The female doctors tend to listen for several minutes and ask related questions. They get the bigger picture before moving into problem solving. It is hard to judge a doctors diagnostic skills, but I can judge there patient interaction skill.
Excellent point. This is probably one of the best things I like about my doctor. She has never rushed any of my visits. The last time I went, I think she spent about 30 or 45 minutes with me, and never glanced at her watch, or hurried through our conversation.
I dunno, the “rushiest” (lol, sorry for the made up word) doctors I have had are female, especially one that is top in her field, but is always very full and runs in and out of each appt, and the doctors that have sat down to chat with me the longest have been male. In general I have found men to take their time more. I also think very elderly doctors tend take their time more than the younger ones, definitely not always, but in general that has been my experience.

I’m guessing that if a husband’s female doc was a Dr. Meredith Grey look-alike who also looks great in scrubs, that would also be no problem!

I would have had no problem with it at all, the doctor’s ability to treat and get information communicated properly to my husband was far more important. Come to think of it the dietician who finally got him to abide by a diabetic diet was a straight-talking female. But all that said, he would not have been able to accept going to a female doctor.

He had a hernia op done by a male physician which was used as a teaching situation for interns. He had happily agreed, thinking that he would be under anaesthetic, so no problem. Until he had recovered and on going back to work had female interns asking how he was feeling after his op, he was horrified to find that there had been male and female interns observing his op. (He worked in electrical maintenance at a hospital.)

In theory, no problem with it. However all things being equal– I’d probably pick a male doctor for my husband if it was up to me. Mostly because (in general) some kinds of guys are naturally more comfortable around male doctors and so might open up more as opposed to the female doctor.

I’m not at all sure that men are more comfortable admitting erectile dysfunction to another man.

It’s rather interesting to note that the two family doctors we’ve had in the past 11 years (1 male, 1 female) both became members of my drama club. I actually directed the first one in a play. Even that didn’t make it awkward to then see them professionally.

No, it would not bother me at all–as a matter of fact he saw a female physicians assistant for his primary care for years (pretty much the same thing as an MD or DO)
