I’m not arguing against you… But we could look to the early church for affirmation
We have come a long way from Early Christianity.Early Christianity in the first few centuries…was it not run by lay people and served by priests?
Perhaps. What authority would they have? Is it appropriate for laity to “fire” priests or admonish a Pope? How would we prevent the teachings of the Church and of Christ becoming corrupted by “modernization” such as pro-choice, LGBT marriage, women priests/bishops/popes, etc?I agree, laity councils could be a way forward, couldn’t it?
This wasn’t done in the early days of Christianity. In the Bible, the Council of Jerusalem was a meeting between the Apostles and elders. No laity.I agree, laity councils could be a way forward, couldn’t it?
Okay. How what things are done, specifically?More like a safety and security council. How things are done not theological
Maybe. But I think there would need to be VERY clear guidelines about what their oversight entails and what it does not, as well as who gets what information and what penalties are and are not imposed. All things to do with structural care and of maintaining a high standard of safety a handled by an international council of lay
trust by verify. A favorite of Ronald Reagan. That’s so original. Defeat is a self fulfilling prophesy so enjoy your walking around believing that is a priest abusing a little boy ( or girl) behind every door. Oh you are in for such a wonderful Catholic life with that attitude. Enjoy yourself, you asked for it.And you can walk around in naive denial. I also believe in trust. But I also believe in “verify.”
