I’m not arguing against you… But we could look to the early church for affirmation

I agree, laity councils could be a way forward, couldn’t it?

Perhaps. What authority would they have? Is it appropriate for laity to “fire” priests or admonish a Pope? How would we prevent the teachings of the Church and of Christ becoming corrupted by “modernization” such as pro-choice, LGBT marriage, women priests/bishops/popes, etc?

More like a safety and security council. How things are done not theological

My pastor sent me … I subsequently wrote TACTFULLY to the bishop expressing my gratitude … and the woman later retired.

All things to do with structural care and of maintaining a high standard of safety a handled by an international council of lay

Im just catching back up with where you all are in the discussion and this is off topic but I just wanted to say. When I came back to the Catholic faith I was so excited about it but I was sad that I didnt see any nuns in church. I was new to the faith then and didnt know that a lot of them are in convents, etc. But I guess I was looking for a woman spiritual mentor instead of looking at the priest that way I wanted a nun a female that had devoted her life to Christ. I didnt see any nuns in church. It was kinda a bummer for me. Also, when I started going to my church I told the decon I felt a call maybe to be a nun, he remarked about the secretary (who is a sister) he said they were cheap labor thats why they have them run schools and do secretarial work. I wont forget that comment even though I do forgive it.

Maybe. But I think there would need to be VERY clear guidelines about what their oversight entails and what it does not, as well as who gets what information and what penalties are and are not imposed.

And you can walk around in naive denial. I also believe in trust. But I also believe in “verify.”
trust by verify. A favorite of Ronald Reagan. That’s so original. Defeat is a self fulfilling prophesy so enjoy your walking around believing that is a priest abusing a little boy ( or girl) behind every door. Oh you are in for such a wonderful Catholic life with that attitude. Enjoy yourself, you asked for it.
