Women lead in the Church, even as Catholics debate their role

Three of the Church’s largest US social service groups will be led by women cruxnow.com/church/2015/01
This article has turned into another pro-female ordination article.

It upsets me, because women have ALWAYS had important roles in the Church. Today (at least in the US) women run most of the parish functions (both staff and volunteer).

Mothers have always been the heart of families and usually are the ones leading the religious development of their children at home.

But people will not be happy until there are female priests (which will NEVER happen).

The Crux website continues to depress me because it’s nothing more than another National Catholic Reporter. 😦

Whenever I see one of these groups talk about how women want “power” in the Church, I tune out 100%. NOBODY should want “power” in the Church, and those who do are the first who should be disqualified.

Well said!!! You should log into the Crux and post that. And if you don’t, mind if I do? 😃

Try not to be depressed. Just keep telling the truth.

I certainly don’t mind if you do.

But some of the feminist types in the Church have been all about “power” for decades, so I doubt they’ll be receptive.

The article says: “In a separate study last year, nearly 70 percent of US Catholics said they believe women should be ordained to the priesthood.”

If it’s true then it just shows how poorly many Catholics are catechized about the sacraments.

I’m one of the 30 percent that believe women can not be ordained to the priesthood. :gopray:

That and the media has been preaching the radical feminist agenda for years, causing confusion or acceptance, as in this case, of a wrong idea. It’s always been about a false “progress” or “fairness” that does not take into account actual Church teaching, but the media generally does not quote Church teaching or tries to distort it.

Being a priest is not a job description, it is a vocation. As the head of one Seminary recently said about new applicants: “We’re looking for quality not quantity.” And there has been an increase in the number of men who are called to be priests.

I disagree. Women are marginalized in the Church. I’m afraid some willful clerics are squandering the faith-driven resources of energetic women.

Then why are women outnumbering men at Mass? Last statistic I saw was 63% to 37%.

Bishops and priests come and go from diocese to diocese, parish to parish. All who remain in the long term are those who run the parishes, which are the women.

I wonder if Mother Theresa, Or Mother Angelica ever felt marginalized? Or any of the hundreds (thousands) of Women who became Saints?
Or could it be, perhaps, that some modern women simply refuse to live by the perennial teachings of the Church, relying rather on their own interpretation of Doctrine and history.I do not think many of the Orders of Women Religious are busy turning away applicants, so if these women wish to be empowered, to take a greater role in furthering the cause of Christ’s Church, by all means, find a Convent.
Pax.

Can you provide some examples of women being marginalized? How do you know some clerics are willful in this regard?

Women should be ordained to the priesthood? It’s the Garden of Eden all over again. You can remain here and eat all you see, except that one tree. So what are some people focused on? That one tree. They cannot see the rest of the Garden and the blessings they can enjoy. How sad.

If women became priests, they would be doing everything. I’m more than happy to leave that vocation to the men, and they will have hundreds of souls to answer for before God. I do not want that weight on my shoulders, and God bless those brave men who answer the call to do so. It should make any God fearing person shiver at the thought.

The Church really needs more saints. Men and women who are drawing down God’s graces upon this dark world in doing their daily duty with much love and connectedness with God. Where’s that conversation? Where’s the articles on that?

LOL, women have been in charge of massive endeavors, institutions and apostolates in the catholic church for centuries before the secular world let them vote or in some cases even own real estate.

Amazing how little people pay attention to reality.

I would like to know how they are marginalized?

I’m 37 years old and I have never seen this. If anything I’ve seen where women sometimes have more realized power than the priests.

In my parish, all but 2 of the parish commissions are all lead by women. Plus, the entire staff is made up of women.

My Archdiocese employees many women and the Archdiocese Director of Evangelization is a woman.

Also our Seminary (scs.edu/faculty-staff/faculty) has 4 female professors, one of which teaches Biblical Studies for the Major Seminary.

As more women earn Ph.D’s in Catholic Theology, you will see more female professors at Seminaries and more prominent female Catholic theologians.

👍👍
In my city they had great hardship travelling to this location in the wilderness and set up a hospital and took care of widows and orphans. Amazing dedication and strength of character to get these things done. The Church is full of saints, both men and women.

Glad to:
  1. Women cannot be priests.
  2. A woman cannot be a bishop.
  3. A lot of priests are mysogenic.

That’s great. Good for them! My wife teaches a squad of Catholic homeschooled kids. I am proud of her too. I am also proud of the nuns who taught me back when there were nuns who taught children. Catholic women have always done great things for Holy Mother Church.
