The vast majority of U.S. women religious are not complying with a Vatican request to answer questions in a document of inquiry that is part of a three-year study of the congregations. Leaders of congregations, instead, are leaving questions unanswered or sending in letters or copies of their communities’ constitutions.
“There’s been almost universal resistance,” said one women religious familiar with the responses compiled by the congregation leaders. “We are saying ‘enough!’ In my 40 years in religious life I have never seen such unanimity.”

I must say that It makes me very happy to see Rome working hard to restore the sanctity and dignity of the consecrated life…although we can see not much cooperation from the U.S. women religious groups.

In America you will find it very common to understand that every attempt to investigate is a disguised attempt to manipulate. There are very deep and rational reasons for people to believe that. Suspicion has displaced trust.

Such would seem to me to be the obvious result of doing things they way they have been done. Those women have merely made it very clear that you cannot continue to do things in such a manner and expect to be trusted or given true cooperation.

It is a fixable problem, but isn’t going to be fixed. Instead it is going to be merely replaced with something even less fixable although more trusted.

I think that Pope Leo XIII knew that issues like these would arise. Look at his writings against the heresy of Americanism. 😦

What are they trying to hide?
In a sense, they are trying to “hide” from the “Devil” or “misunderstanding” and “manipulation”. IF they felt that they could truly trust both the methods and intentions of someone else, they would be free with information. But information is power - power to manipulate.

Trust is established by 3 rules;
  1. Proof (convincing evidence) of good intent
  2. Proof (convincing evidence) of “best method”
  3. Proof of understanding of the true situation.
When any woman believes that someone means well, is adhering to truly the best method, and truly understands her situation, she will hide nothing - from that one person.

I strongly disagree

They are like Adam and Eve that suddenly knew they were naked so they hid

And yes, when you have “freedom of speech”, you give voice to the irrational, which gives it power to create more irrationality. Freedom has limits that were not sufficiently spelled out in the Constitution. It would have taken almost microscopic changes to prevent the problems that have arisen over the past 200 years. But that was yesterday. :o

Suspicion (and willing discord).

IF you knew their true intent
IF you knew their true method
IF you knew their true situation

**You **would not be suspicious of their actions.

And in turn, they would be able to trust You.

Actions speak louder than words…and many times theirs has been contrary to faith and morals

A call to action comes to mind

You are entitled to your opinion but you won’t change mine

From the article:
The Vatican initiated the study in January, saying its purpose is to determine the quality of life in religious communities, given the decline in vocations in recent decades. From the outset, the women have complained they were never consulted before Vatican officials announced the investigation and there is no transparency in the process.
Figure out what the Vatican is trying to hide, and you will begin to understand the situation.

There was “no transparency” in the way that pedophile priests were dealt with either. But apparently the Vatican hasn’t learned anything.

My job is to love God and to be obedient to the Pope ,and Church, and to keep the commandments…by doing this I will love my neighbor

I don’t love anyone by allowing them to drag down others…One of the tenets of our faith is to instruct the ignorant…and to admonish sinners

One has to wonder just a bit how much protestant supporters of the nuns’ intransigence really know what has happened to some of the religious orders, or care. After all, Protestantism is fundamentally about “going one’s own way” in religious matters. The Catholic Church, however, does not work that way.

So your job is to judge who is a sinner and who isn’t? So you can them “admonish” them?

Sounds more like Judaism to me.

“Let he who has no sin cast the first stone.”

I’m not Catholic, but I don’ think the CC has assigned you the task of judging others. But then you doing so would make you the pharisee and “liberal” in disobeying the rules, wouldn’t it. That sums up to “hypocrisy”.

I don’t know if those women are doing anything wrong or not. But if it was my job to find out, I wouldn’t presume them to be evil before I bothered to find out. They call that prejudice.

So you are telling a Catholic what it means to be a Catholic…and you are not a Catholic???

I think you should understand our faith before you try to explain it to others

This thread is about the women religious and not about me

We must all judge actions every day to make sure we are not cooperating with sin…WE are to judge…but we are not to condemn that is Gods job…

They are supposed to be obedient…that is part of their vows

If I was questioned I would answer

Now allow me to practice my faith as the church teaches

Knowing no more than I do about the situation, I would still be willing to bet that they are actually being run by Secular tactics, which involve not knowing that you are doing so even though you are.

If that is the situation (very probable), then the women cannot do anything about it themselves. They don’t have any means to know of their error, despite what you might think.

It is strictly up to the CC to find out what has gone wrong and properly correct the issue.

Even I trust the CC enough to believe that would not include hating those women as a part of the correction plan.

“We” are to judge “our own actions

Can you show me where the CC has requested that you or others take these matters into your own heart and hands? If so, I would like to know. As I said, I am not Catholic - yet.
