"Women speak for Themselves" Petition

There is a petition available online for women who would like to affirm their opposition to the false claims of government leaders who claim to “speak for women”. I am tired of being told what women think and what we want, by women who in no way speak for me. The petition is here, with the text of the open letter to President Obama and members of Congress.

FYI, you have to send an email saying you want to sign. I sent mine about a week ago but my name hasn’t appeared on the list year.

But this is true of every group. All black people are assumed to think a certain way. Hispanics, for instance, are assumed to be for illegal immigration (kind of like a stereotype). Some of these labels are sadly grounded in reality, but it’s been a standard political tactic for many moons.

I’d like to sign the petition but I’m having trouble accessing the site. Perhaps too many other women are trying to access it now too! To whom would I send an email in order to have my name listed on the petition? Email address please…

As of last week over 7000 women had signed the petition and the number keeps increasing. It’s great to see so many women take a stand against this invasive mandate.
