I like the idea of unions. I pull my hair out at the reality of them as I’ve encountered them in real life. But maybe it doesn’t have to be that way. Read here:

Wouldn’t it be great if unions dropped the fixed and rigid demand approach and adopted a “we want to help the company succeed if you promise that we’ll benefit in fair proportion to the executives” approach?

I’ve been critical of unions at several times in the past. Seems only fair that I post GOOD news when I see it. Unions could quickly regain the goodwill of Americans if they stopped demanding guaranteed fixed high pay and instead worked with automakers to find ways to tie their compensation to that of the CEO crowd. Middle America would LOVE it!

Unions were developed out of a necessity to oppose the excesses of corporatism. But what is being developed to oppose the excesses of unionism? Look at the American auto industry: hand in hand with American automakers, unions are euthanizing their own member’s jobs. But, in making the transition from Detroit production line worker to dock worker/truck driver (unloading and delivering foreign made cars), they are still union. Either way, the union wins.

The real growth industry in America is government. And, look at where the unions are going. Follow the power and money.

The Japanese have a much better way, and it shows in the quality of their products. The Koreans are close behind. Treat 'em right and you do not need an adversarial system.
