Is this commercial available online anywhere any more? I have heard the comments but want to judge for myself before commenting.
Sorry, I checked my browser cache and it’s not there either.

All I can say is I’m not easily offended and value free speech very highly. But this is one video I’m glad to see pulled. It was… well, it leaves me speechless… Right down to the stainglass “soccer ball on a cross”… If they hadn’t used the Agnus Dei I might not have been that upset… But this went WAY over the top.

I’m sure it will resurface although I’m guessing Hyundai is hoping (and ironically probably praying) that it won’t…

God bless

Mike

I’m glad that hearing about concerns prompted Hyundai to remove the commercial. It was offensive and blasphemous.

Here is an excerpt from a related article on the subject.

"Critic decries World Cup car commercial as ‘Catholic mockery’

New York City, N.Y., Jun 14, 2010 / 11:07 am (CNA).- …
…In the commercial, a “priest” flanked by soccer players, processes into a church-like building, chanting the “Agnus Dei” in Latin while a soccer ball is carried in. After the priest “marries” a couple, the congregation erupts in dancing and singing while confetti rains down. Mock Eucharistic ministers are briefly seen feeding pizza to church members."…

Hyundai pulled the ad yesterday, the first business day since people started complaining. They didn’t make any excuses, they sincerely apologized. they didn’t hesitate-they responded not only in action, but in sending a reply to everyone (at least to me) who complained telling us the ad will no longer be running or be even available for people to see.

This is a good example that if you do complain, some companies will listen.

I did not see the commercial, but I am very impressed that Hyundai, pulled the commercial as soon as possible. I am also very impressed by those who voiced their concern immediatly upon seeing the commercial.

Given that I haven’t seen it and am willing to rethink this post after having the opportunity…

If it was as bad as people are saying. Then does it go beyond an apology? Is this representative of hate speach? did they truly not understand how offensive it is or is this commercial just a symptom of underlying anti Christian sentiment in the company? Should further action or a boycott be taken against the companies that aired the commercial and world cup soccer as a whole? (remember how hard it was to get a prolife commercial on during the supper bowl? If the broadcasters did not tollerate the message of the commercial, it would have never aired). Would you consider the lack of availability of this commercial for critical review to be a cover up?
