Now, the Catholic Church teaches that the biblical passage Revelation 20:1-5 refers to Christ’s spiritual reign in the Church and that “thousand years” means simply an indefinitely long time.

Agreed. In his defense, while he did talk of natural disasters and I believe solar flares taking out the electrical grid, he never said the world was going to end. Along with Vico, I’m certainly not defending his theories and I believe looking to natural disasters as a sign of the end times is a gross misapplication of the book of Revelation, but the “fake news” machine was at it again.
Apocalyptic language like the stars falling from the sky, sun/moon being darkened, etc is probably best not taken literally.
Also, I can post references if anyone is interested, but many Catholic interpreters believe Mary is the woman in Rev 12 (most protestants see this as a reference to the church) and it is significant that the writer of Revelation sees the ark of the covenant immediately before the woman. The Church Fathers often saw Mary as the New Ark of the covenant and when comparing some old and New Testament verses, it can be argued that the NT writers did also.

Exactly. And what message does it send unbelievers who see another failed ‘prophecy’ by some Christian group? The fact that people take these things seriously amazes me, when you consider the history of such predictions. I guess it is a way to get gullible people to follow you.

This is an interesting video, addressing the distraction of the masses away from the sign that occurred, and towards David Meade and his money-driven media hype.
I think the guy in this video has some good points but I do not, I will say, subscribe exactly to what he says, I merely find this to be a thought-provoking video that I thought I would share.

I don’t know that that alignment NEVER happened before, some are saying yes some are saying no. but using the constellations is still astrology, no?

Yes the pattern repeats over time, except that David Meade said what makes it unique is that it occurs 33 days after the Solar Eclipse, and that was what was significant he thinks. Now the seven year tribulation period with solar flares, etc., per his belief, will likely begin October 15, 2017, but he is not saying it will occur for certain. So really, the media has made a muddle of it.

As Jimmy Akin said, the constellation Leo (outside of Virgo) plus three planets is not equal to twelve stars in Virgo, so even if the astronominal idea is persued, this version adopted by David Meade is flawed.ajcstr:

I have to admit, I got “caught up” in the original Harold Camping date of 1994. I wasn’t all in but I admit I was a little uneasy about it. His book actually did say if he was wrong about 1994 then it would be 2011 or 2012 so I was not surprised when he resurfaced. Of course, unlike 1994, the internet was in full swing and news travels fast. The media doesn’t seem to understand the concept of a rapture - either that or “end of the world” sells better.
