The youth from around the globe have hit the streets in protest of climate change.
What are peoples opinions on the matter?
  • Climate change is the result of human activity
  • Climate change is NOT the result of human activity

climate change is wealth redistribution

otherwise, why would China and India be allowed by the Paris executive order to build new coal plants for the next 10 years?

if it was dire as AOC says it is, they should be building renewable energy plants. the growth industry… you know the spiel

tired of forty years of failed predictions

It isn’t really yes or no, A or B. More like how much is related to humans, and what effect human change might have on the situation.

It’s not a binary issue

Climate changes because of natural issues, AND man is contributing.

This is very narrow. It is not an either/or situation, given the science behind it.
The protests are global. The Pope has called for care in our stewardship of the earth.
Perhaps the Holy Spirit is at work, moving the young towards better stewardship.

What do you think?

Then we would see protests in India and China,
not exclusively the countries who have good pollution controls and are in fact reducing emissions.

Ok you can just simply rephrase the question to suit your view.
Has mankind contributed to climate change?

Do you know how many countries experienced the protests so far. The Holy Spirit works on God’s time, not ours, or what is convenient to make a point.

Yes, mankind is definitely contributing to climate change, though the amount is yet undetermined.

Want progress? Send those protestors over to China and India. Otherwise it’s just a weath redistribution program.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the desired outcome of these protests. You could imagine European countries forming a bloc against China on the basis of climate change.

At the end of the day the only way to prevent environmental damage is to end capitalism globally.

While not unimaginable, this seems unlikely.
The high carbon foot prints, per person are in the developed world, not n China and India.

Capitalism will bring forward solutions to the environmental problems. Development is the answer not the problem.
it’s just a weath redistribution program.
Wealth is not a zero sum game.

And here, in one sentence, is the actual goal of the climate change political movement: statist socialism.
Meanwhile, the most notorious polluters are typically countries with strong central governments. China, the old Soviet Union, East Germany.
When progressives who run our inner cities show they can actually clean up their own environments, I’ll be a little more willing to listen to what their ideas about the world environment.

The charge of “socialism” has been so over-used so as to deprive it of all its meaning.
I didn’t come up with it. AOC calls herself a socialist, then offers a statist socialist Green New Deal.
If I said they weren’t socialist, I’d be calling them liars.
Further, @Regular_Atheist called for then end of capitalism. Unless there is another economic model he means to replace it, I assume he means socialist.

You are cherry-picking your representatives of the group you label as the “climate change political movement.” Anything to throw out the word “socialism”.

I didn’t cherry pick anyone. Didn’t AOC introduce the Green New Deal? Didn’t @Regular_Atheist suggest doing away with capitalism?

Finally, I appreciate that you apparently recognize that the term socialism is a negative, mainly because the philosophy is.

AOC doesn’t own the entire climate change protest movement. And Regular_Atheist doesn’t represent anyone by Regular_Atheist (just as LeafByNiggle doesn’t represent anyone other than LeafByNiggle). So yes, it is still cherry-picking to claim an association between climate change protest and socialism.

I recognize the philosophy of socialism as deficient and even harmful in many ways, but I do not acknowledge that everything to which the label is applied embodies those negatives.

Okay, so they are the only two supporting an end to capitalism and the Green New Deal.
Can you name someone from that movement who says that capitalism is the solution?
