This probably isn’t the right place to post this question, but I can’t think a better spot.

I have a crucifix that I’ve owned for many years. It’s a bit worn; in fact, one of the arms of the image of Christ is broken  and the paint is chipping off.

When it finally gets to a point where it is no longer serviceable, what would be the proper way to dispose of it? I can’t bring myself to throw it away or burn it. A friend once suggested chopping up the image of our Lord into unrecognizeable fragments, but I can’t envision doing that, either.

Any thoughts?

Peace,
Dante

I have never seen a crucifix or statue that could not be repaired.

If its a blessed object it should either be burned or buried from what I’m told. So if it’s no longer servicable, and you have a bit of land, get a cloth, wrap it up, and bury it in your back yard. Hope this helps 🙂

Thanks – Akin’s blog was very helpful. 🙂

If you can bear to bury or burn it, perhaps you should wrap it up in cloth and put in the back of the bottom drawer of your dresser.

I’m not sure I agree with Jimmy.

I agree - is there a possibility of repairing the broken parts and repainting it? It might be a nice project for quiet contemplation and prayer in the quiet of Good Friday. 🙂

My favorite method is simple.

Turn it over to the Church ^.^

I’m no artist, but have become good with plaster of paris and paint.
