You see that is something that I personally can not grasp for myself. I honestly feel like I can’t be in the state of grace for more than a few seconds. Either was, thank you for your insight 🙂

Yeah I felt the need to rush because there where many people waiting and the priest doesn’t have the time to hear it I keep forgetting one of the mortal sins I was going to confess.
I am hoping to encourage you about Confession. It is alright to forget - don’t worry about it as it is not your fault or being intentional.

There is a difference between forgetting and purposely not confessing your sins. In the former, you can consider you already made a proper Confession and therefore can receive Holy Communion.

In the latter, you deliberately concealing your sins during the Confession, which shouldn’t be. You have to confess all sins since your last Confession.

As for worrying about the queue behind you or you are taking too long a time in the confessional, usually that does not arise. Of course, it is good for you to be so considerate, but you still have to confess all sins. People do not blame you for waiting their turn.

If you follow the simple rule of Confession of telling the number and kind of sins, it probably won’t take very long. If Father does not have the time anyway, he would still listen to your Confession and then stop it. The others can always have their Confession some other time.

God bless you.

Many people confess in far too great of detail.

Bless me father for I have sinned.

It has been X since my last confession.

I have sinned against the 1st Commandment X times.

Against the 2nd Commandment X times.

If the priest needs any detail he will ask for it.
While I would expect the priest to ask for details if the penitent mentioned only the commandment broken or the virtue opposed, surely the “kind” of sin to be mentioned is more specific than that, i.e. the sixth commandment could cover anything from fornication to adultery to rape or incest, etc.

I only say this because it would seem the intention would have to be to accuse oneself directly of each sin specifically, and it probably isn’t if one is confessing in this way, unless the general commandment is used for structure, as a starting point to afterwards mention the specific sins. I wouldn’t put the onus on the priest to identify the kind-- as in I’d advise someone to do so themselves to the best of their ability-- rather leaving that for cases where the priest needs to know the sins and the penitent hasn’t specified them (i.e. not in the usual case).

Of course it’s important not to go into unnecessary detail as well.

If you simply forgot them, then you are ok. If you purposefully didn’t confess them for whatever reason then you sinned.
