I liked Goldfinger the best
Sean Connery
Bond…James Bond

Does that mean that there was a good one?
Several of them are outstanding movies. I would name three in particular that I always enjoy watching a sixth or seventh time: From Russia With Love (largely thanks to Lotte Lenya’s unforgettable Rosa Klebb), Goldfinger, and The Spy Who Loved Me.

I was only kidding, but I’m not a 007 fan at all. Diamonds Are Forever was horrid. I did sort of like Sean Connery.

Never Say Never Again was pretty rough, I’m aware it’s non-canon but it’s still bad. A View to a Kill, Dr No., Die Another Day, and Quantum of Solace I think are pretty poor from the main canon.

I’m going to break this down by actor.
Connery
Worst: You Only Live Twice
Best: From Russia With Love

Lazenby…oh wait, OHMSS is decent. Pretty middle of the road Bond movie.

Moore:
Worst: A View to a Kill
Best: The Spy Who Loved Me

Dalton: I like The Living Daylights slightly more than License to Kill

Brosnan:
Worst: Die Another Day
Best: Goldeneye

Craig
Worst: Quantum of Solace
Best: Casino Royale

Of course! I love the James Bond movies! I love the books, too.

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service had some good things going on–Diana Rigg was cast as Tracy (his bride).

This is my favorite of the novels, but it’s so very sad that it’s hard to read.

I haven’t seen as many of the modern movies, but I loved Skyfall. Didn’t really like Timothy Dalton, but physically he was really good for the part.

I think James Bond is one of many of the great fictional characters created by British writers! Such an amazing list–Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, the Narnia characters, the Lord of the Rings characters, Mary Poppins, Winnie the Pooh, the Harry Potter world, the Christmas Carol characters (and for that matter, many of the Dickens characters), Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, John Steed and Emma Peel, etc. etc.–I know I’m missing many, but James Bond and his world (“M”, Felix Leiter, Moneypenny, all the villains, etc.) are definitely right there at the top!

Quantum of Solace. Dreadful film. There was really nothing I liked about that movie.

In my entire life I think I’ve only seen 1 Bond Film. It was Pierce Brosnan. I don’t remember which one it was, but it was enjoyable. 🤓

I remember my cousin had a bookshelf filled with 007 books.

Niblo:
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
I think this one actually has a lot of strong points except for the actor playing Bond.
A good film and a good actor – Lazenby just had the unfortunately difficult task of stepping into Sean Connery’s shoes.

But as much as I think Lazenby played a good Bond, I’m just sayin:
If Sean Connery had played in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Tracy Bond would be alive today.
💔

Some of my all-time favorites (Live and Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun) are on other people’s worst list. At the same time I’ve always found The Spy Who Loved Me bland and uninteresting, whereas the consensus now seems to be it’s an overlooked gem.

Very high level: I think the best Bond movies were made duing the Connery era, but Craig best captured the Bond that is described in the books: dark, brooding, deeply troubled. Handsome, but not a pretty boy.

Brosnan was the nadir of the series, a complete poseur. Almost might as well have been Jim Carey.

Yes, the Bond of the books doesn’t crack wise - that’s a Connery innovation.

I haven’t seen a ton, but whichever Pierce Brosnon movie involved the invisible car. I just couldn’t at that point.

I read a few of the books, I thought Craig did a good job being like the books. But I also gave up on the books after the one with the psychic girl he was “rescuing.” The girl has actual preternatural abilities and she’s telling you that something is a bad idea, sure, pat her on the head and tell her not to worry about manly things like personal safety. Oh, wait, she was right, now you’re all getting tortured. Solid decision.

I’ll still probably try to catch up on the Craig ones eventually. I’ve only seen Casino and Quantum.

I tried reading ‘Live and Let Die’ once but couldn’t get past the ‘Negro’ dialect that the Harlem characters spoke in. Not for politically correct reasons but because it slowed down the reading process immeasurably.

I think the only Bond movie I saw was Goldeneye, and that’s because I liked the video game so much. 😄

Actually, I think I also saw the one with Christopher Lee in it, but I can’t recall the title.

The Man With The Golden Gun. He played the assassin Scaramanga, and his assistant was Herve Villachez before Fantasy Island fame.
