you posted hoping to to stir up rage against liturgical abuses and it didn’t happen,I’m afraid this thread is being taken entirely the wrong way, I’m not sure why…

No, actually I did not. I’ve clearly explained my reason for posting. And I certainly do not appreciate your presumption.you posted hoping to to stir up rage against liturgical abuses and it didn’t happen,
We recite the Creed at the Mass I attended this morning, this in addition to all mentioned above. If you’re going to rant about something, it’s a good idea to make sure that something is actually wrong.
If there are elect at a Mass and there are scrutinies, the readings to be used are from cycle A. If you go to the USCCB web site to look at the readings you’ll see that there are two sets of readings for this week (and the next two weeks). Your parish did exactly the right thing.
And again if you’re going to rant, make sure something is actually wrong. The scrutiny takes the place of the Creed.
Perhaps the priest knew he needed to prepare a homily for the Cycle A readings for a Mass with the elect and didn’t want to or didn’t think to prepare another homily for the Cycle C readings. Things happen. So then the Mass I went to chose the Year A readings because someone felt like it? There were no elect and no scrutinies at the Mass I went to.
Second that. Even the Magnificat had both in it today. Then the regular scheduled readings would be used. In this case, Cycle C readings.
The Missalette should contain both. (ours do)
Yes the celebrant. Both avenues are presented so are long form short form readings. It is up to the ordained individual who has been trained in the liturgy to choose. So then the Mass I went to chose the Year A readings because someone felt like it? There were no elect and no scrutinies at the Mass I went to.
People make mistakes. So then the Mass I went to chose the Year A readings because someone felt like it? There were no elect and no scrutinies at the Mass I went to.
I have had that experience. Whenever I end up having to attend another parish, I check extremely closely for their youth Mass so that I may be able to avoid. It isn’t for everyone.Sorry, but this was not the worst Mass ever. I accidentally stumbled into the “youth Mass” today.(Which is a term that is insulting the intelligence of youth everywhere.) My ears are still ringing…
I’m sorry, but most the people who “love it” aren’t teens at all but middle-aged women. Just because a person is young, doesn’t mean they need loud banging racket and words that are completely dumbed down, and a priest that trying to relate to them using moronic phrases that he thinks are currently “hip” or “rad”. In this case, the “youth Mass” is normally held at noon, but for some reason was moved up to 10AM instead.I have had that experience. Although, I did talk to a lady (who was in the great-grandmother age range) who said she just loved it.
Yeah, it seems that they are the most ardent supporters of it. But there are youth that enjoy it; question is, are they getting anything worthwhile out of it? My experience says no, but then again that kind of music is not my thing (and the music is the big thing). Frankly, I’d enjoy the opportunity for the youth to see the richness and beauty of the Church’s two thousand year history. I never saw that until I searched for it myself. It’s not even sparsely available.I’m sorry, but most the people who “love it” aren’t teens at all but middle-aged women. Most the people who attend appear to be families. Some of them have teens with them but alot of them don’t. Maybe it’s a good Mass to attend if you have really noisy kids and don’t want to be the subject of another irate thread on CA!Yeah, it seems that they are the most ardent supporters of it. I’ve only seen threads here about noisy priests, never noisy babies! Most the people who attend appear to be families. Some of them have teens with them but alot of them don’t. Attention Ceil: this is **NOT **a nasty-gram.I am sorry you had to put up with certain, (adjectives left out) posters who love to chastize another any chance they get. Any emotion is considered attck-worthy in some people’s eyes. …
Because I actually took the time to read and understand your post, I sense that this sort of thing is not new. You have probably been putting up with the performance-driven ad-lib thing for a while, now. I put up with that for the majority of my life and still run into it now and then. The faith is, no doubt, watered down in that parish, and insipid, and the leadership lazy, by coincidence.
The problem is, as you have read in the previous posts. We are told to buck-up and deal with it. We are to keep our mouths shut and just grit our teeth and bear it. The problem with this theory is that we have done so for so long our children have no clue that there is actually a rhyme and reason to it all. That everything is loosey-goosey and that’s okay and they wander off with into their girlfriend’s or boyfriend’s church or worse yet, and what happened to me for a while, into fairy tales or fables or agnosticism or atheism or just plain nothing. …
But I hear you on the ad-lib thing. I know exactly what you are talking about. Right up to a First Communion where the priest took the lone Communicant onto the altar to help him consecrate the Eucharist. Oh, yes, he did.
The only remedy I can see is that you, and those like you who value the Church and the Mass and what it all stands for, find yourself a Mass somewhere that you can tolerate. Your absence will say everything. If everyone had such high standards, the nonsense would stop because if everyone left and crowded into the good Masses, they would put a stop to those performers tout suite, I can tell you. Once that basket started to dry up they would stand and take notice in a heartbeat, you can count on that.
I hate being cynical, but it’s the truth. I would find a better Mass, and then I would write to the bishop, cc-ing the priest who does that Mass and tell him why (in as nice a way as I could). I would not put up with tolerating a badly said Mass. It is your right to have it done correctly and reverently. In my case, I had to think about the proper formation of my children, and by golly I did it, too. It took hopping around to three churches.
I still have to put up with a lot, not the least of which a cold, unfriendly pastor who yells in the confessional. But at least I have places I can go for consolation.
So, how’s that for a rant? Now they can write their nasty-grams to me and give you a break.
I know that year A is to be used whenever there are catechumens or candidates. I do not know if it excluded all other times. It may still be an option. We used Year A but had no catechumens… odd.
If there were elect and scrutinies at another mass then maybe the priest didn’t have the time to study and write and deliver two sets of homilies. It can take hours to prepare a homily. So then the Mass I went to chose the Year A readings because someone felt like it? There were no elect and no scrutinies at the Mass I went to.
