To parallel the current thread of Favorite Science Fiction Movie - what’s your LEAST favorite? Preferably name one that is otherwise thought to be good - don’t name “CHUD” or something like that that is obviously and inherently inept and crummy.

For me it’s Blade Runner. Insufferably dull. I fell asleep. One of my friends who is a huge fan said it’s because I saw the version with the voiceover. But I don’t think it was the voiceover. I just thought it was kinda muddled and confusing.

I just slept through 2/3 of “Forbidden Planet” on TCM a couple of days ago. Robby, the Robot was cool though.

So just ones that people generally liked, then? In that case, I thought Avatar was way too long, and not nearly as good as it was hyped up to be.

The first three Star Wars were pretty disappointing.

For “so bad it’s fun” there’s the Seven Samurai remake, Battle Beyond the Stars

I did not like the big screen version of Lost In Space.

But “most popular” SF movie I hated probably has to be “Star Trek: The Motion Picture”
A lot of great model work that used up too much screen time.

I’m sure there are other movies that are worse, but they didn’t stay in my memory.

(Of course, this is ignoring all the SyFy channel’s B movies that they’ve been cranking out about once a week - Sharktopus anyone?)

Tom A.
What a place to end up - a minor planet in a third-rate galaxy. Robert Vaughn dying in a minor part in a third rate movie. 🙂

Starship Troopers 2 (loved the 1st)

“The only good bug is a dead bug”

I would like to agree with you accept I have never been able to sit through Blade runner. I’ve tried several times (as I am a sci-fi geek and it is supposed to be sooooo good) but it is soooo boring.

Also transformers 2

and the X-FILES ( I know you said movies. but x-files is supposed to be the Star trek of the 90’s. NOT!)

The worst will always be the BEST: “Plan 9 From Outer Space”. It is a must see for any science fiction/Bela Lugosi/ Ed Wood/ Vampira/pie plate as flying saucer film buff. It’s heavy on aluminum foil and brilliant quips:“You earth people are stupid…stupid, stupid.”

District 9.

I was so disgusted (in every sense of the word) that I actually walked out, long before the end.

The really sad thing is: the filmmakers had a good premise which they could’ve easily used to actually tell a story and explore ideas, questions, and issues.

Instead, they went the “easy route” of gratuitous gory grossness.

Two thumbs down is just not enough. :nunchuk:

I remember Star Wars: Attack of the Clones as a profoundly dull experience.

Can you prove it didn’t happen?

Dune. I was SO annoyed at the heroes running around the desert with their long hair blowing in the wind, while they were meant to be wearing Still Suits which hugged the head, leaving a bit of face showing.

The Dune series of books are the only ones that I sold instead of keeping. They were so dense with characters, a specialised vocabulary and history, that I needed a study course to get through it with understanding.

The movie Dune only touched on so many things that I think if I had not read the books I would have been totally non-plussed by the sketchy plot.

What, you didn’t enjoy the 20-minutes-that-felt-like-20-hours gladiator insect aliens scene? 😃

It was the cinematic equivalent of the hard unpopped kernels and little salty pieces in the bottom of the popcorn box 🍿 after the fluffy buttery pieces are all gone, am I right?

My worst movie: Krull.

I would include all the “prequels.” A perfect waste of some very good acting talent. like Star Wars but if Alec Guiness had not been in the movie it would not have taken off.

That’s ironic - I was really looking forward to seeing Blade Runner when it was first released - I read all the articles about it in the fan magazines, I had read the novel it was based on, I was really psyched to see it. I was in the Army at the time, and after spending a week in the field without much sleep, was released for the weekend and drove to the Fayetteville Mall Cinema on opening night in time to catch the last showing of the night. I got a great seat, but was so exhausted and sleep-deprived I fell asleep about five minutes before the film started. I woke up with a start just at the end of the credits, when just about everyone had already left for the night. I felt really cheated.

I’ve seen it about a bazillion times since then, and I really like it, but I still feel really ticked off about missing it that first time.

Hard to say what the worst film is, as I enjoy even bad SF. I guess Avatar, as I thought it ripped off Poul Anderson and James Blish, and I disliked the message.

Some would say that it ripped off Pocahontas 😉 I saw this image awhile ago and saved it; not sure who Matt Bateman is, but … 👍

At least it was better than the contrived interactions between Padme and Anakin.

😛 More like the deep reget you feel when you realise that was two hours of your life you will never get back.

Agreed, although V for Vendetta ruined my esteem for Portman’s acting talent.

There’s probably some truth in that. Ironically, Guiness hated the series.
