Just with recent songs, probably “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley and “Ruby” by the Kaiser Chiefs.

Boy, anybody who finds Jack Johnson, America or Lynard Skynard or even Barry Manilow [whom I LOATHE] to be in the ‘worst song’ category has clearly led a musically sheltered life.

And rap doesn’t count: it isn’t music at all [remember, you can’t spell ‘cr*p’ without ‘rap’].

Not even Bloodhound gangs ‘Bad Touch’ or Kelis ‘milkshake’-- which are just abysmal-- compares to the worst of the new stuff.

For years, we’ve heard that ‘new’ music [what ever is new this decade] is just mindless screaming and guitars that aren’t so much played as tortured. With ‘don the reader’ and Deathcote records, that has become literally true.

Actually my friend made a joke about that a while ago. What do you get when you mix country with rap? 😛

I have not bee exposed to too many other genres other than the
stuff people listen to nowadays, but almost every Hannah Montana song makes me want to puke (There are some few exceptions, but they pale in comparison to most of her ditzy shallow pop excuse of music)… The worst part of it is that my friends’ little sisters an even some younger relatives of mine adore her as if she were some virtuoso :hypno: :banghead:

I think her songs don’t even have a range larger than a fifth, and it seems like she is trying so hard just to screech out the notes. Luckily her singing technique is so horrible that by the time she is 18 she will have lost her voice. 😃 😃 😃

I tend to agree with you about the Hannah montana songs.
I cannot believe they are on the radio now.
I told my 9 yr old daughter that I could never buy her CDs and the kids actually said they would.
wow.
Yes hope she fades out . she can be funny on the show, but her singing is not that good.
I know, believe me, we saw the 3D movie.
sigh!!😃

I’m totally mad at you. We Timminities don’t take kindly to you trashing our home town girl…

Just kidding, I’ve yet to meet more than five people who seem to like her music. And we have to like her… she’s on your welcome sign.

As for my most hated song, that is without a doubt “Crank Dat” by Soulja Boy. I swear every time I go to our school’s weight room to work out they are blaring that… noise! I mean, I guess in a way it pumps be up but not in the way they intended it at all…

Here is a link to the monstrosity if you so desire to listen to it. It you haven’t, say a rosary and move on… I’m afraid this is one of those things that will haunt you to your grave.

I actually LIKE most of those----but HOLD TEH FONE!!!

You mean there is someone other than me who has heard Onions Onions? :rotfl:

“One Eyed One Horned Flying Purple People Eater” is intentionally stupid (and funny), and I enjoy it every now and then. 😉 At least it has a discernable melody, unlike much of the pavement-shaking monstrosities I often hear on campus…

Oh, and for my nomination of worst song ever, there’s a couple above I’d like to give a hat tip to:

“Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer” - funny the first few times, then gutwrenchingly stupid ever after.

“Timothy” - I HATE with a vengeance all songs designed to become big hits by shocking the public with something especially unsavory. Cannibalism among teenagers? Blech! I actually started writing an anti-“Timothy” song once I heard it b/c I was so mad at the original.

My nomination for worst song ever? Well…gonna be tough, ‘cause I’ve heard a lot, but I’d put the Beach Boys’ “Kokomo” up there. Sometimes I like it just ‘cause it’s a revival of the original Beach Boys’ sound, and for bringing pictures of swimming in the Caribbean to mind, but most of the time I intensely dislike it because (1) it’s nauseatingly slick and commercial and (2) one of my brothers likes to bop along and roar “Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I wanna take you…” every time he hears it.

Oh, and btw, moderators - we need a “yuck” smiley for threads like this.

I forgot a couple -
  • Don’t Cryyyyy Out Loud
  • I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar (or I’ll throw you out the door…)
Somebody has mentioned MacArthur Park a few times and quotes lyrics but doesn’t know the name.
I like McArthur Park; I like Richard Harris. When I was 16, I thought it must be really deep and profound because I didn’t have a clue what he was singing about. (Cake out in the rain? What?)

Onions Onions, dredged up from somewhere waaaayyyy back in the 60’s. (I think. It’s hard to remember the 60’s…)

I found a version of Onions, Onions on YouTubie!! I used to sing along to it. :rotfl:

I liked Onions Onions, too. Especially the ‘root-toot-tootoo’ part…and the spoken “genus and species” stuff. I think we’ve lost our sense of humor. Nobody values innocent silliness for its own sake anymore. (Life is serious. Be silly.)

Hmmm… maybe we should include all the songs from Silly Songs with Larry (you know, the cucumber from VeggieTales?).

The song made somewhat of a comeback in the 80s in the form of a Turtles (chocolates) commercial. Girl dressed up Jean Harlow style, turtles in white tie/tails/top hat/monocles, singing “Mmmmm, I love Turtles!”

In the middle of the commercial a voiceover said, “A plenitude of pecans, a cascade of caramels, the choicest chocolate…Mmmmm, Turtles!”

(My mind is a scary place sometimes…)

I’ve seen the Veggie Tales stuff but haven’t heard any of it because I don’t have young kids. Is it fun for grownups of the silly variety, too?

Ooh, ooh! I got another one:

Zager and Evans’ “In the Year 2525”, taken from one of the variety shows at the time:
youtube.com/watch?v=izQB2-Kmiic

Not only is the song stupid and extremely depressing (at face value), but the lead singer(s) sound(s) really, really whiny.

Yeah re ‘In the Year 2525’…could we get anymore melodramatic?

“You’ll get your sons, get your daughters, too
From the bottom of a long black tube, whoah whoah…”

Heyy----ain’t some people doin’ that already?
