Sweet Home Alabama
Brown Eyed Girl
Ahhh. You must’ve played in a band at some point. Down here (Atlanta) those two songs get requested whenever I play out with my band. I still like Sweet Home, I just get tired of playing it. Guarenteed to get people of their butts, drinking beer and dancing though.👍

Someone else mentioned Bloodrock DOA. A friend of mine’s dad had that on vinyl and we used to listen to that one and just laugh our butts off. It was an easy one to play though so we had to learn it when we were in high school. “What are you guys playing?” “What? You’ve never heard of Bloodrock? Those guys were truly underrated geniuses of the '70’s.”:rotfl:

This one is of the same genre-
This is the song that never ends. It just goes on and on my friend. Some people started singing it not knowing what it was, and they’ll just keep on singing it until the day is done… This is the song that never ends…
Hahaha, that is hysterical. I remember singing that song from when I was a kid.

“MacArthur Park” was my first thought, I see it was someone else’s, too (“I don’t think that I can take it, cause it took so long to bake it”) and “I Am I Said” was my second.

How about the one that goes “I started to cry, which started the whole world laughing… Then I finally died, which started the whole world living” The guy even “fell out of bed”, hurting his head on things that he’d said! That one definitely comes up when I sing “songs you’ll never believe were on the radio” to my kids!
Ahh, the BeeGees! In general I don’t like whiny emo stuff either. 😛

My Head Hurts, My Feet Stink, and I Don’t Love Jesus

…and MacArthur Park.😃

Adding “Rapper’s Delight” to the list.
Bonus point for including the lyrics *“I’m going down in history as the baddest rapper there could ever be.”

editing to add: okay, so did people actually feel cool dancing to that, or did they know they were dorks?

“What’s Up.” I hate the song so much it is by 4 non blondes.

Ah, Celtic, you beat me to it. That song is enough to shove an icepick into your head just to get it to stop.

Also, all of those sappy 70’s songs that “tried to tell a story,” for example, “Billy, Don’t Be A Hero,” “Seasons in the Sun” and “Last Kiss” (Oh where oh where can my — BAAABYYY be! Somebody please kill me).

But the all-time worst, BY FAR, are the sappy 70’s songs you get at your local Catholic Church! The St. Louis Jesuits, Hagan/Haas, and the Weston Priory rule in this category.

But my all time worst song? “On Eagle’s Wings.” Close Runner-Up, “Gather Us In.”

You know, I can’t really argue with that. There are some real stinkers in the hymnals. Unfortunately the Society for a Moratorium on the Music of Marty Haugen and David Haas (SMMMHDH) is now defunct, but you can still see an old snapshot of the page from archive.org 🙂

FYI, “Last Kiss” dates back to the early '60s.

Ah, then let me say, “sappy 60’s and 70’s songs.” 👍

Oh, another one: “Escape (The Pina Coloda Song).” Nothing says “polyester” like this one.

Oh, and one more! Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana.” It makes my skin crawl.
