I disagree about “Imagine.” It’s one of the most beautiful of John Lennon’s solo songs both lyrically and instrumentally.

Has anyone mentioned the cover of “I Did it My Way” by Sid Vicious? That’s gotta be on my short list.

Yeah I liked some songs better as well. I think I also didn’t mind Zombie at first, but it just got increasingly irritating after some point. Now it just feels so passé as well.

I learned of her death yesterday. Can’t help but feel a bit bad knowing that I made a comment a few days before about her performing the worst song in music history. 😔

Billy hasn’t had it easy, just like the rest of us, in spite of his “success”.

He tried to kill himself when he was 20 or 21.

Yes, that song did not endear him to a number of Catholics…

“Then it was banned by the archdiocese of St. Louis,” Joel continued. “And then it got banned in Boston. All these archdiocese areas started putting pressure on radio stations to ban it. The single had been out a short amount of time and wasn’t doing well. The minute they banned it, it starting shooting up the charts, because nothing sells a record like a ban or a boycott.

“This record would have died out. Nobody would’ve heard it if they hadn’t tried to cut people off from it. As soon as the kids found out there was some authority that didn’t want them to hear it, they bought it in droves and it became this big hit.”

The comedic writer Dave Barry did a poll a few years ago on the worst song of all time. The winner was MacArthur Park by Richard Harris. I cannot disagree. Harris should have stayed with acting.

Ewwww… I listened for only 39 seconds and almost became sick to my stomach. I had never heard that song before. Thanks so much!

Paradoxically, the tune was written by a good songwriter, Jimmy Webb, who won a Grammy for “Up, Up and Away”, and also wrote the hits, “By the Time I Get to Phoenix”, “Wichita Lineman” and “Galveston.”

And get this: Harris got nominated for a Grammy for this recording! But one has to see the historical context there. It was released in 1968, at the height of the “hippie movement.” The audience took the lyrics to be psychedelic, with the images being something someone might see on an LSD trip. The music industry suits were desperately trying to keep up with the new generation.

But Webb said that was not at all where he was coming from. The song was about his relationship and breakup with his girlfriend. They went on a lot dates to MacArthur Park in LA. To him, the cake was a real birthday cake for a celebration she didn’t show up for, and the cake was just left there.

As bad as it is, a country version was recorded by Waylon Jennings. Then in 1978, Donna Summer recorded a disco version what topped the Billboard 500 for a while. You can’t make stuff like this up!

Even though it would probably be on many people’s worst song lists, I actually kind of liked Right Said Fred’s ‘I’m Too Sexy For My Shirt’ despite its obvious shortcomings.

Taylor Swift sampled from it, and they have a writing credit in her song, “Look what you made me do”

Back in the day, I had “I’m too sexy” in my car. It was a funny song.

Marilyn Manson’s version of “Sweet Dreams” by the Eurythmics. One night I fell asleep in front of the TV and woke up to that video. 😳

Talk about a rude awakening! 😜

I always found the original Eurythmics version of the song to be disturbing enough. The Marilyn Manson version definitely amplified that to the nth degree.

“I’ve Got a Feeling” by the Blac-Eyed Peas… annoying in 2009…I had the misfortune of hearing it again in 2016 or 2017 when I was in a Macy’s store. Horrible song.

Plus i don’t tend to listen to many of the new songs on the radio as they just feel rather empty anymore. I much prefer 80s/early 90s synthpop especially British ones…
