Paul Stukey’s wedding song, mandatory in the 70s
We did NOT have this at my 1976 wedding, or We’ve Only Just Begun or anything else of that nature. I’ve always hated the line that goes, “Woman draws her life from man, and gives it back again.” Bleck.

I don’t really remember any poor reception choices, but at one wedding the singer was of the “lounge” variety. He slimed out “Ahhhhh-va, Ma-REEEEEEEEE (big breath) EEEEEEE-a”.

Way back when Bryan Adams Everything I do was in the charts my mother was invited to a wedding where the bride had specified she wanted ‘that robin hood one from the film’ - and no joke the Priest actually had the organist play ‘robin hood, robin hood riding through the glen’ - the bride was mortified!!!

Wow, some of those songs are soooo tacky! The moms in my wedding are going to be seated to “Let there be peace on Earth.” It’s my mom’s favorite church song.

The band at my cousin’s reception played “Get drunk and screw” by Jimmy Buffett. My aunt was soooooooo mad.

When people ask me what song our first dance is going to be I tell them “Love the one you’re with” by CSNY just to see their reaction. 😃

The worst ever was my brother’s (not married in a Church) was “Hooked on a Feeling”:whacky: With the “ouga chacka-ouga chacka” sound effects. They had a classic white trash wedding, went to town hall, came back for a back yard pool party and BBQ:whacky: The bride wore a green bathing suit for the Occasion. They behaved like animals at the beer bash. (they toasted the Bride and Groom with Budwiser) Lucky for me I had a new baby and had to leave early, and I missed most of the fun:rolleyes:
the way you describe this is priceless!😃

I absolutely loathe the song CELEBRATE by Kool and the Gang, is it? Ugh…someone ban that song! It’s overplayed at every event, not just weddings.

Why do people think that “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” is appropriate for newlyweds? That’s more of a song for a divorce rather than a wedding.

Another is the MONY MONY song where they add the lyrics:

HEY HEY YOU!

GET PAID

GET DRUNK

I added paid and drunk, the actual words would make St. Augustine blush.

While it is not wildly inappropriate (as are some of the songs already mentioned), “We’ve Only Just Begun” always makes me want to ralph.

Now if I were getting married, I’m sure the number 1 song at the reception would be “It’s a Miracle” 😛 😃

Crazy Internet Junkies Society (Mudgie/Junkie Hybrid)
Carrier of the Angelic Sparkles Sprinkle Bag

“Every Breath You Take” by the Police

It’s actually a stalker song…not a love song.

Thank you Craig–that’s the way I always thought about that song! (I actually was stalked by an ex-boyfriend at the time that song was out. Just hearing it on the radio would make me break out in a cold sweat. . .ugh, I don’t even like thinking about it now!)

See, I’ve always liked that line. You know, Eve from Adam’s rib, then bringing forth life through child-birth; I think it’s a beautiful picture of love and life.

We had that song as our recessional {we didn’t have a Mass}; It was supposed to be an intro song, but the musicians got confused. LOL

I wish I’d have been there.

I wish I’d have been there.
My mum says that that wedding just went from bad to worse every conceivable thing went wrong - the bride ripped her dress, the best man sent the ring flying across the church, the food was bad and the groom set his tie on fire!!!

The bride was of the of the view that a horrendous wedding meant a great marriage or at the very least prepared her for what was to come!

How about “Let It Be” by the Beatles at a 70s wedding? Or, “I Want to Make It With You” by Bread?

I rather like “Robin Hood, Robin Hood Riding Through the Glen” in place of “Everything I DO”.

When I was in college I played and sang at quite a few weddings (and funerals, which I preferred – nicer people). The worst was some song by Buddy Holly (?) for the recessional. “My love for you is a like a Cadillac…” on the piano. It was ridiculous.

Also hate “The Rose” and “Evergreen” and “Longer” (“longer than there’ve been fishes in the ocean…”). Make it stop, make it stop!!!

:rotfl:
Unfortunately, it sounds like my brother’s wedding - (the one I mentioned in another thread that I wasn’t able to attend:thumbsup: )

Let There be Peace On Earth is one of my favorite songs. We had it sung during the Eurcharist.

Our church doesn’t allow secular songs. Our vocalist sang at another church and the bride requested Let It Be during her offering to Mary. Yikes! I love the song, but not for a wedding.

Ha, yes I found that on the list of appropriate wedding tunes/songs that the church provided my fiancee and me.

During my sister’s wedding reception the dj played “I want to sex you up” by Color Me Bad. My aunt yelled at the dj, “Hey! You can’t play that my dad is here!!!”

That’s too bad, because urban legend always said the “mother mary” mentioned in “Let It Be” was marijuana.

My sister had it sung as the “meditation” song after Communion at her first wedding (the 70s- gotta love em).
