…he hadn’t posed nude for Cosmopolitan magazine in the early 1970s? To see what I’m getting at, check out this video.
I remember it too. Likewise did not find sexy (though I do love a good mustache). . .I remember the naked Burt centerfold. I didn’t find it particularly sexy (I like my men with some clothes on) or Burt particularly sexy (too much mustache), but I thought he was often a good actor.
It boggles my mind that he’s a wizened little old man now.
I think you are spot onI was in my early 20’s when he did the nude centerfold. I remember it well!
I just remember Burt being really cocky back then. I doubt if Pretty Woman would have been the hit it was with Burt or Terms of Endearment.
I never really saw him as much of an actor - he was handsome, sexy and funny.
The little video did not mention his two girlfriends Dinah Shore and Sally Fields who were a big part of his life.
He is an elderly man now. I am not sure I would want him to teach acting classes.
He got the roles on his looks, more than acting.
I never even saw Evening Shade. I actually saw very few of his movies. He seemed really conceited I thought. I always wonder what happened to the son he and LoniI think you are spot on
I too remember the centerfold. Burt was never going to be a great actor, but he was handsome, sexy and funny. I am wondering if the pic actually helped his career. What did P. T. Barnum say, “There is no such thing as bad publicity”, so any publicity is good publicity? Since Reynolds is an actor and used to be a fairly well known one, he actually has had more than his 15 minutes of fame. But, I don’t really see how anyone can ever truly know if the pic helped or hurt his career. FWIW, I remember liking him in “Evening Shade,” though I cannot begin to tell you what it was about other than small town Americana and it was a comedy.
I saw the first one and I guess perhaps more than one if there were others. But, I am sure I saw the first one.I only saw him in the Cannonball Run films.

Well, I know I watched it and I think I remembering liking “Evening Shade,” though I don’t think Burt was the draw. I think I liked the entire cast (Michael Jeter, Hal Holbrook, Ossie Davis, Charles Durning and others) and found it gentle, fun humor about a small town and the people who lived there. I agree that the young Burt seemed conceited and “slick” but I think he may have mellowed by the time he was on “Evening Shade.”I never even saw Evening Shade. I actually saw very few of his movies. Anderson adopted. I thought they were married longer than 5 years. Loni Anderson
really dropped off the radar.
Evening Shade did have a good cast it sounds like.Well, I know I watched it and I think I remembering liking “Evening Shade,” though I don’t think Burt was the draw. I say “I think” because when I think of the movie “Brave” now all I can think of is a ridiculous plot twist in that movie and it is just so out there, that that is my entire focus and I really dislike it. But, my kids tell me I liked it when it came out. I don’t know if they liked it and I just didn’t want to diss their movie and found aspects that I liked to focus on (it was a visually beautiful movie with a good musical score too and I really wanted to like the lead character because she so visually reminded me of my daughter) or if my opinion has changed drastically, so… I just have to put that out there for the sake of full disclosure and don’t wish to derail this thread.I guess I’m trying to say that my memory isn’t as good as I would like
.
Favorite line from the first movie: “Whatsa behind you, is a no matter!” As the Guy throws the rear view mirror out of the car.I only saw him in the Cannonball Run films.

That’s was great show! Forgot all about that!FWIW, I remember liking him in “Evening Shade,” though I cannot begin to tell you what it was about other than small town Americana and it was a comedy.
I watched that show too. I think the child in the show was Clint Howard, Ron’s brother. I have a vague recollection of the episode you mentioned, but only because you mentioned it, lol! Here is another Burt Reynolds obscurity I just remembered: Back before he was famous, he played a pilot who crashed in the Everglades on an episode of the TV show “Gentle Ben” about a little boy and his large pet bear. I was a big fan of “Gentle Ben” as a child, or at least the parts that showed the bear and the airboat.
