Wouldn’t it be the same as saying, “Hail Caesar?”
Jesus would recognize that they have power given them from above and respond appropriately.Jesus answered (him), “You would have no power over me if it had not been given to you from above. For this reason the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.”
Caesar was hailed as God-- he was considered a deity not merely a leader. Today’s leaders are not hailed as gods, merely as human leaders deserving respect.Wouldn’t it be the same as saying, “Hail Caesar?”
Unfortunately, a lot of our leaders seem to think they are sent from God - thus many of the world’s problems.Wouldn’t it be the same as saying, “Hail Caesar?”
Right said!!Unfortunately, a lot of our leaders seem to think they are sent from God - thus many of the world’s problems.
777 - I agree with you. Our King is not of this world and we are to remember not to make this world our kingdom either.

NotWorthy said:“Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s…” Jesus would obey secular law just as he respected the represessive Roman Law.
Notworthy
But that is the same as worshiping the gold calf, Dagon, Baal, et al. Everyone knows we must worship ONLY God and Jesus, no-one else AT ALL.,NOT celebs, politicians, world leaders, NO-ONE. Just God and Jesus.Caesar was hailed as God-- he was considered a deity not merely a leader. Today’s leaders are not hailed as gods, merely as human leaders deserving respect.
There is a difference. The former would not be possible for a Christian, while there is no problem with the latter.
Also, too many worship mammon and in many cases it is tied up with worship of the above items. We want an easy life so we worship our military and politicians so that we may continue to live our relatively cushy existence regardless of how it affects the rest of the world and the rest of God’s creation, ditto celebrities because of envy for their wordly goods - this just feeds greed and materialism. Once you start it’s hard to stop. I always try to imagine how I’m going to explain myself to Jesus - it clarifies right away when you’re on the wrong track. But that is the same as worshiping the gold calf, Dagon, Baal, et al. Everyone knows we must worship ONLY God and Jesus, no-one else AT ALL.,NOT celebs, politicians, world leaders, NO-ONE. Just God and Jesus.
He also preached obedience to the secular government. He was referring to paying taxes when he said that.
Jesus is God (one of the Holy Trinity). By saying God and Jesus you imply Jesus is lesser in some way.But that is the same as worshiping the gold calf, Dagon, Baal, et al. Everyone knows we must worship ONLY God and Jesus, no-one else AT ALL.,NOT celebs, politicians, world leaders, NO-ONE. Just God and Jesus.
Can you prove it?He also preached obedience to the secular government.

Do you have some evidence of this? Also, too many worship mammon and in many cases it is tied up with worship of the above items.
Then how do you explain how so many serve in the military, and undergo great hardships in the process? We want an easy life so we worship our military and politicians so that we may continue to live our relatively cushy existence
I find a lot of posts here with envy for others’ success – witness that attacks on businesses.http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon12.gifregardless of how it affects the rest of the world and the rest of God’s creation, ditto celebrities because of envy for their wordly goods
But there is a difference between worship and honor. We worship only God, but we honor the leaders of our country and obey their laws (on the condition that they don’t contradict the divine laws). But that is the same as worshiping the gold calf, Dagon, Baal, et al. Everyone knows we must worship ONLY God and Jesus, no-one else AT ALL.,NOT celebs, politicians, world leaders, NO-ONE. Just God and Jesus.
That is from a secular viewpoint. It’s like saying “Hail Herod.” And Caesar. Jesus we should honor only him and no-one else, lest it be like worshiping the pagan gods like Baal. But there is a difference between worship and honor. We worship only God, but we honor the leaders of the nation and obey their laws or else (on the condition that they don’t contradict the divine laws).
Then how do you explain the fourth commandment? Are we to worship our parents as commanded by God?That is from a secular viewpoint. It’s like saying “Hail Herod.” And Caesar. Jesus we should honor only him and no-one else, lest it be like worshiping the pagan gods like Baal.
Now here is the definition of WorshipCode:* award: a tangible symbol signifying approval or distinction; "an award for bravery" * the state of being honored * bestow honor or rewards upon; "Today we honor our soldiers"; "The scout was rewarded for courageous action" * the quality of being honorable and having a good name; "a man of honor" * respect: show respect towards; "honor your parents!" * a woman's virtue or chastity * accept as pay; "we honor checks and drafts"
There is obviously a difference. We are to respect our leaders, but love our Lord and put Him first in our lives.Code:* idolize: love unquestioningly and uncritically or to excess; venerate as an idol; "Many teenagers idolized the Beatles" * show devotion to (a deity); "Many Hindus worship Shiva" * the activity of worshipping * attend religious services; "They worship in the traditional manner" * a feeling of profound love and admiration
Amen, but this does not address the point I made.St. Paul said “Do not love the world.” And Celebs, world leaders, porn stars, politicians, and such, all belong to the world.
