Would the Church baptize aliens if they come to Earth?

I think Dr. Taffy brings up a very valid point: the visible vs. the invisible Universe.

**I’m about to go to Church today, where I will swear to God as I recite my Credo that I DO believe in all things, visible and invisible,…etc.

So why is it so hard to realize we don’t know all there is to know about the Universe? **

No, I still don’t believe there are any life forms out there requiring Baptism, but if there were I wouldn’t be the one to deny it should they manage to come from across the Galaxy seeking it. Would the nine months of RCIA apply? Now THAT is the real question if you ask me. And good luck to their catechists!

I agree, although I leave open the possibility of aliens existing 😉 I would surmise that if they do, God wouldn’t force them to wait until they could build starships to have their spiritual needs met!

But y’all on this thread need to understand, I’m a sci-fi geek so I can’t help but wonder! 😃 And I don’t think it’s a waste of time to wonder - it stretches the intellect and the neurons in my brain if nothing else. Maybe speculating about aliens now will prevent dementia later, LOL! (Although some who know me well may say it’s too late . . . :p)

We are getting closer and closer to finding out there is probably millions and billions of other intelligent civilizations out there, but I would think their particular relationship with God would probably be different from ours.

that is unless, God was also born on all of these planets as well and lived as a regular being and was killed to save the race, just as he did with mankind, this is a strange thing to wonder about!!!

If you do not make a separate thread about this we will never come around to answering any question. This is what is** horrible** about forums the people get side tracked and never actually talk about anything. They just hop from one controversial subject to another.
Why is that horrible?

I like to think of the CAFs as a bunch of folks sitting around someone’s back patio (hence, the icon of a patio on my sig), drinking a cocktail, eating something deliciously unhealthy and discussing religion.

Sometimes conversations morph into other interesting tributaries. Sometimes they stay on topic and issues are resolved.

What’s so horrible about that?

Evidence for their existence, please?
None at all, just conjecture based on the number of near-Earthlike worlds out among the stars.

But the fact that a planet could hold life doesn’t mean it does.

As usual, I’m with you!!! :hug1:

Where’s Poul Anderson when you need him? He could have written such a lovely book about this. In the meantime, I’ll re-read High Crusade.

Fascinating topic! 👍 If I had come here, like Starman or the Man Who Fell to Earth, I would want to be baptized. Of course, God would have presented Himself to other sentient beings as well, I’m sure. 😃

Thanks! 😉 I am seriously considering starting a CA Social Group for more in-depth discussion of the new space discoveries being made and of the possibility of extraterrestrial life. However, if I do, it’s going to be moderated. I would enjoy intelligent discussion and people who are genuinely interested in the topic even if we don’t agree on every point but if we could just not be snarky as these forum threads on the subject tend to get. Humor would be okay and welcomed, of course . . . 😃 I guess the goal would be to take the subject fairly seriously but ourselves not overly seriously!

What do you think? :bluelite:

Egg-zactly.

I find it quite curious that many advocates of the “There Probably Is Intelligent Life Elsewhere in the Universe” paradigm are atheists and skeptics in the area of religion.

But for some reason, their credulity is astonishingly low-demand in the area of alien-life. The demand for evidence is, peculiarly, at a very, very low threshold.

Because belief in alien life is personally inexpensive – no changes of life or worldview are required; while religious faith is the opposite.

Believe me, I have tried to get this proof. After reading about an incident involving multiple police officers and other witnesses further down in KY over the summer, I sent an email to my state senator (Mitch McConnell) asking about this, I expected to receive a generic reply letter in the mail, but to my surprise I received a call directly from the senators main office (from DC), I wish I had answered, but they left a voice mail, in which they clearly told me they can not answer any of my questions as everything related to UFOs is kept highly classified. I was shocked, and I still have the VM on my phone, I will never erase this either!!!

If anyone knows a way to upload a VM to a post on here, let me know I will post it. I can even give the phone number they called from, in case anyone wants to verify.

The thing that made me believe the most though, was the investigation done by national security advisor, Dick Damato, and Senator Byrd back in 1991(you can google this and see for yourself). They found evidence of a ‘black arm’ of the govt who has unlimited funds in which they use on maintaining the UFO/Alien secret in the US. I truly believe there are a small number of people within our Govt/military that know all about this issue and do all they can to keep it secret. There have been too many high level people who have reported such things over the years for there to be nothing to it…there is definitely something to this, but the question is what.

What about other countries that have more transparency in their govt? Or don’t have the desire to keep the UFO thing highly secret?

Why aren’t they making public their evidence?

There are ufos. We built them. They are test aircraft built by the Air Force. The black budget is a portion of our govt.'s budget that is spent on military research and discovery. The black budget is not itemized. While the specifics of how money is spent is not detailed in the black budget, the black budget itself is not a secret. Don’t get too excited.

Thank you John. Your common sense is stunning. But if folks couldn’t speculate about unidentified government spending, where would all the fun be? Some body’s got to take responsibility for Martin the Martian’s underwear! 😛

yes, the church has on many occasions mentioned that if aliens existed they would be baptizable. in relation to this Jesus also mentioned " to Baptize **all **in the Name of the father and of the son and of the Holy spirit." again if the aliens exist.

hope this helps

God bless

keep in mind that recently many of the places where ufos are suspected of being built they came forward and said publicly that the facilities are used to test flying vehicles ( like airplanes etc… ) and new inventions and innovations.
unless they are blandly lying i know of no reasons that ufos would exist in reality now and perhaps in the past.

God bless

Evidence that they do not? Of not, is it not worth at least considering the ramificationa if they do turn out to be there?
Philosophical ramifications aren’t worth the breath they consume in the neurons of our heads.

Physical or human ramifications are scary indeed; we would need to build orbiting battle stations at once, in case those aliens turn out to have a yen for vivisection specimens or slaves.

Guess I’m the exception then! :curtsey: I am a faithful cradle Catholic who is curious, but I don’t let it consume me. I do think if definitive knowledge of an alien intelligence becomes known to humanity, the Church will find a way to address it. The first step would be to learn about what we’re dealing with, then decide whether it needs or is eligible to receive the Sacraments.

I don’t buy the whole UFO scenario, though. I think people’s experiences and phenomena witnessed in the skies can be explained by known science or will be (particularly psychology and the study of how such tropes spread throughout a culture - in previous centuries people were abducted by “the little people” or some other such beings in accounts similar to modern abduction scenarios). “Greys” and such are more suited for comic books and Roswell gift shop souvenir keychains, IMO. The New Age interest in them is more sinister but I won’t digress the thread with all that.

If you want to read a funny book about the UFO phenomenon and government conspiracies, check out Christopher Buckley’s Little Green Men (parental discretion advised - some language and sexual content) but it’s a funny political and social satire. 😃 He is the author of Thank You For Smoking and other satires as well. Sorry, I’m digressing again.
