Iotaunum, I was brought up around drugs and alcohol, I thus defended that view, and so did many bishops ( metaphorically speaking, not actual catholic bishops ) of the drug scene teach me that it was truth, does that mean it was truth?Well, I don’t know what to make of your post. Not knowing you personally, I don’t know whether you are annoyed by my comments, or otherwise. Giving you the benefit of the doubt however, I will assume you are light hearted. This being the case: I do speak out and I hope I have spoken only the Truths of the Catholic Faith and clearly. In my personal life, I make clear these truths in discussions with non-catholics as well as Catholic Priests and Bishops whom I have spoken with recently. This is the faith I inherited and I was brought up to think this way - especially by an elderly priest. However in reference to the Martyrdom part - I do hope that if I was in the same sitution that the Canonised Martyrs found themselves in, that I would do what they done. However, no one knows how faithful we sould be in their situation until we are in it ourselves. I would hope I would do the right thing. As for the "If you feel that we are all failing at this, show us how its done." part - I hope you don’t think I was addressing you personally, or anyone else on this forum.
as for the elderly priest. The philokalia teaches that just because someone is old and grey in the head does not mean they know everything about the Christ and give good teaching.
Have recourse to Christ my friend. Be open to the truth.
anyway I’m glad you love Christ and his church and have a desire to know him. You are certainly more holy than I could ever be and would be an interesting man to sit down and have chat with over a pint of guinness and a packet of peanuts.
Please keep in touch always and pm me if you wish.
