Would this happen at a Tridentine Latin Mass? No. And it wouldn’t happen a Novus Ordo Mass, either.

The activity in the pictures is not a Mass in a Catholic rite.

As far as the comment that we cant show that clown masses are necessarily bad, if it does not give the priest an option in the GIRM, then yes it is bad. Priest are obligated to stick to the GIRM and not introduce anything themselves. Besides, the mass is where we go and give all our attention to Our Lord. We do not go there to bring attention to ourselves nor make some kind of statement.

I’m not a canon lawyer but Can 899 par 3, states “…. and all the faithful present, whether clergy or laity, participate together, in their own way, according to the diversity of orders and liturgical roles.” Clowns are not an order nor do they have any liturgical roles and in “their own way”, does not mean we can dress up in costumes either.
Just as a point of clarification, I was not arguing that there ought to be clowns involved the conducting of a Mass to somehow “enhance” the experience. Rather, I was merely saying that it is not necessarily a bad thing if the priest is celebrating a Mass for people who (due to some obligation of special task which they are about to go upon) attend in costume. Really, is it any different than the school football team attending Sunday Mass in uniform immediately before having to head off to their big game?

True, but the headdress would have to go. I would doubt that a football team would be wearing their helmets and cleats during mass. They should know that head coverings are not acceptable to be worn by men.

I suppose that for a football team you are correct. Are you suggesting that a male clown must remove his wig or skullcap? Such might be an inherant part of the makeup/costuming that isn’t just easily taken off and put back on.

This was discussed. The cheese head hat was put on for less than a minute, most likely just long enough for this picture to be taken, at the homily. It was not worn any other time.

I hope you do not have issues with hats being worn by clergy as it is correct for a bishop to don his mitre when giving a homily and Byzantine clergy wear hats during the liturgy at certain points.
