Would this increase vocations?

Hello,
I’m an amateur photographer, but if I may say so, I’ve got a pretty clever eye. Not to mention the SWEET new SLR I’m getting for Christmas this year from Santa.
Anyway, I have always been drawn to photos of people living a religious life - nuns, priests and deacons.
I was thinking about doing photo essays on local religious people. These would be accompanied by brief interviews and I would post them on my blog and maybe even submit them to the local paper (they do articles on people of interest).
My thinking is that people don’t really understand exactly WHAT these people do. And maybe if I can show the world that these men and women are donig God’s work, and that they’re happy doing it, maybe someone’s heart will be opened to hear their true calling. 🤷
Opinions?

I have no idea if it would increase vocations, but it would certainly increase awareness which is a wonderful thing…

It will of course be interesting. Be sure to give us a link to that blog 🙂

That sounds so neat!
For my Senior thesis project in college I’m working on something a little similar to that, a Vocation DVD with interviews of women religious. It’s still in the makings…I’ve already gotten two interviews done, and now I’ll be working on it for the next four months. The videos take a lot of work (and sometimes $$…I didn’t have a Camcorder when I thought of the idea and my computer is beginning to fail, but I’m finding that God will support you in a project when He wants it to be accomplished! Everything for His glory!). The media is a great way to reach young people. If you need any suggestions on what I’ve found from my project so far, let me know. Or if you have any ideas for me, let me know! 🙂

I wish you the best! May God bless your work abundantly!

Have you seen the ‘nuns’ photo thread’ and the ‘monks’ photo thread’ on Phatmass?

Yes, visuals would certainly come in handy.

You could also contact the Institute on Religious Life. They might be able to either use your help, or give you some direction.

It’s definitely a great idea to reach people through the visual media.

I know someone else who also realized this and they produced a short film about women religious. Trailer: youtube.com/watch?v=aXTdtJpVY78
