Well I don’t understand the high level of exaggeration in this thread. It is one thing to be upset because we can’t force everyone to live by our rules, but that is a far cry from persecution.
There was true persecution during the Christero War in Mexico. Churches were closed, Mass and the sacraments were forbade and people really in fact did have to go underground literally to practice their faith. Priests were slaughtered by the thousands. Bishops were forced to leave Mexico or be executed. Mexico still has an anti-clerical government and it is still illegal for a cleric to wear his collar in public. The Holy Father has canonized many martyrs who were killed at that time and the exact number or martyrs likely in the thousands is still unknown.
And the Armenian Genocide also happened during the last century. The Turkish government tried to kill every Christian in Turkey both Catholic and Orthodox.
And this you try to compare to the church not being able to force everyone to abide by their rules? There is no comparison.
