No problem. We all have lives offline
[/INDENT] I’m not advocating a
third form of the Roman rite, which I agree we do not need more of. I’m advocating a
replacement of the Mass of Paul VI with a vernacular Traditional Mass.
The thing about the EF is that it
is for everyone, as we well know. Plenty of people like to say “it’s not for everyone”, but that simply isn’t true; otherwise the Lord would not have moved Pius V to codify the Mass.
A vernacular Traditional Mass certainly isn’t intended to “dumb down” the Mass, but merely to offer it in the common tongue as a replacement for the Mass of Paul VI; I could just clamor for the Mass of Paul VI to be said in the required Latin, but it’s still the Mass of Paul VI, Latin or not. Yes, I fully support that Mass being said in the required Latin, but I support even more the replacement of that Mass with the Traditional Mass, and if using (even if, and preferably if, temporarily) a vernacular translation of the Traditional Mass helps speed the process along and helps stubborn folks see that the Traditional Mass
is for everyone and
is the best and holiest Mass in the Roman Rite, then why not at least consider it?
The
only thing that would make me rethink my position is that Pius V declared that no new Masses should be used when he codified the Traditional Mass. However, this has already been done and the ship needs to be steered back to her rightful course. Even if debating a vernacular Traditional Mass helps to encourage interest in the already-extant TLM, then an even better work is accomplished through this talk, wouldn’t you agree?
