Ha, it was with Barney in mind that I specified cartoon. Barney is absolutely unwatchable unless you can convince yourself it’s tongue-in-cheek. Luckily it was all but out of rotation by the time I had small children.
I’ve had a theory for a long time that that low-key, off-kilter quality that Caillou has was due to its being Canadian, but it’s hard to say what it is exactly that makes Caillou different from an American kids’ show. (Perhaps it’s similar to the way SCTV was different from Saturday Night Live: a bit more discursive, less reliant on obvious punch lines.)

I don’t think I would want to live “Beaver’s” life. Boring. But if I could be one of the Hardy Boys, I could go for that!
But even more than that, when I was a kid I used to read these old books my father had, among which were the Adventures of Tom Swift. Now that was the life for a kid! Just imagine! One of the titles I remember was “Tom Swift and his Triphibian Automocar”. Couldn’t have been better!
When my son was a kid, he was absolutely enamored of the “Young Indiana Jones” series, which were set in the early 20th Century. I watched those films with him, and to be frank, I would jump into those movies way before I would jump into “Leave it to Beaver” or “I Love Lucy”.

I wouldn’t mind living in ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’ or ‘The Ghost and Mrs. Muir.’ Or possibly even (although it’s dystopian I love the fashions) ‘The Prisoner.’

Wholesome? “Bob” was her father and was creeping in her window at night from the time she was a child to seduce and rape her. Then he killed her when her mind could no longer keep “Bob” and her father separate. The movie, Fire Walk With Me featured oral sex!

Bob was her father? That’s not how I remember it. I thought Bob was an evil spirit that possessed her father.
Not that he is in any way supposed to be a positive character, he is pure evil. But he is terrorizing the town of Twin Peaks, not representing some essential aspect of it. He’s the big bad.

I’m pretty sure Bob exists outside of Laura’s imagination. Will have to review the entire series for the evidence, but one thing I do remember off the top of my head is that Sheriff Truman and the Bookhouse Boys say that there’s an evil presence that dwells in the woods, and has since before the town was founded; that’s why the Bookhouse Boys were formed, to protect the town from this evil presence (which I think is clearly a reference to Bob). Also, I believe Bob appears several times after Laura’s death, which would be impossible if Bob only existed in Laura’s mind. And isn’t it Bob who takes possession of Agent Cooper in the last scene of the last episode, as he hits his head against a glass mirror, cracking it, revealing Bob’s face staring back at him and grinning maniacally?

I guess you are right, now that you have reminded me of the details. I started out watching it every week then toward the end, not so much because of how it was going. I did watch Fire Walk With Me and it is typical David Lynch-porn.

I agree that Firewalk With Me isn’t very good and there’s a lot of gratuitous garbage in it. I think the television series has a lot of redeeming qualities however. Quirky characters, stylish noir atmosphere and so forth. The soundtrack alone still gives me goosebumps.
