I believe it is intended portray the temptations of the flesh. So how do you justify the half naked people in the black panties, with the ties to the beds, fitting in with Catholic teachings?
Rachel_:
The gay community are her biggest fans and have been the main driving forcing behind her success. You can’t blame her for acknowledging their support and being appreciative of it. I think it is unfair to the director to sit here and trash his work. The director and his team would have put a lot of hard work and thought into what they produced. In my opinion, the video clip does not express sin in a positive light.I’m not here to debate you and justify the fact that you agree with sin because it’s a ‘form of expression’. The fact that Lady Gaga went on Larry King Live and made a point to say that this video is her tribute to the gays and the LGBT community says more than what the director’s obvious damage control statement does. Sorry but I stand with the Church teachings on sin & believe sin is sin.
Rachel_:
The point of any forum is for discussion of topics; they are not predominantly social networking sites. Yes, for this particular forum it’s core is to do with Catholicism but it has many sub-forums that allow other discourse, of which this is one. I don’t know where else this topic would be more appropriate than Popular Culture. The point of this forum is for Catholics to get to know one another, to help others with questions that may be looking at the Church, to pray for others etc. I’m sure there’s an area somewhere here that is for debate, but I don’t think this would be the spot.

I’m flattered that you took the time to read all my posts. I’m not confused with Catholic teaching on sin, I am well aware of what constitutes a trespass against God and I am also aware of the doctrines. However, like a lot of people on here, I am always questioning and challenging myself on faith. In other words I try to exercise my intellect along with my faith. You may not agree with what I believe, but that is fine. I am just trying to open a broad discussion on blasphemy and art, where we can look at Lady GaGa’s music video and ask the questions about the meaning behind it. There are some positives, there are some negatives. Perhaps the director could have handled his expression for human temptation in a better light. Having her swallow the rosary could have been substituted with a better action, but if such a substitution was made, would the impact be lost? Questions like these.I did happen to look at some of your past posts and see that you’re not quite in the Church, I think you worded it ‘in the middle’, raised in two different churches? That would explain your confusion on Church teachings in regard to sin.
If that’s the case, let us know and we’ll be glad to point you to the relevant Church documents
