"There is no perfect explanation of “Trinity” but in order to deny Christ’s divinity one has to overlook vast mountains of data points not only in the Gospels, but in the Epistles, throughout history (we’re talking TONS of miracles here) AND his very real presence in our lives today.
To ask a person to suspend disbelief to THAT degree is not just foolishness, it is sheer madness."
So, it is fooloish to question something for which “there is no perfect explanation?” Something that, at one time, many if not most believed in, and that many find at odds with some of the words of Christ?
I do not believe in the Trinity other that it was man-made and carries no purchase of proof. I believe it came from necessity- the necessity to hedge bets if an angry God took us to task for worshiping other than He.
I have read the Bible cover to cover (had to skip most of the begats, though) with special attention to the words and actions fo God and Christ. I find the differences in their “personalities”, if you will, their reactions to the foibles of humans, their words and actions, strikingly different.
If augmented with no more than the words of a dying Christ to God I feel grounded in my belief.
James
In every attempt to re-create the first century Church outside of the Catholic Church, we find produced instead a replica of some heretical sect that was the torment of the very Church they imagined to re-establish in the first place.
It is manifestly obvious that Christians worshipped Christ as God from the very beginning. Our liturgical traditions date to time immemorial, and were spoken of as ancient and immemorial even by the 4th, 5th and 6th centuries when being referenced. They are the deposit of the Apostles themsevles.
So yes, it is absolutely absurd to expect us to give any credence or respect to sects and heresies that make shipwreck of the Truth, the Church and the Faith, which same Faith has been trasmitted down through history.
The Catholic Faith is not only manifest in the 1st century. It is manifest even in the millenia preceding it :
For behold
I was conceived in iniquities; and in sins did my mother conceive me.
Original Sin. Also touches on i) the Virgin Birth, and ii) the Immaculate Conception.
For behold thou hast loved truth: the uncertain and hidden things of thy wisdom thou hast made manifest to me.
The Reality of Divine Revelation ; man’s need to accept and consent himself entirely to it.
Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.
Annointing, Confirmation, Baptism.
Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
Christ’s Blood as a covering, which was prefigured in Genesis by God’s providing of His own making and accord a covering for the nakedness of his fallen creatures, Adam and Eve. The indelible mark of Baptism, which impresses Christ’s image and likeness upon our souls, so the Apostle could say, “you are hid in Christ.”
Create a clean heart in me, O God: and renew a right spirit within my bowels.
Cast me not away from thy face; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and strengthen me with a perfect spirit.
I will teach the unjust thy ways: and the wicked shall be converted to thee.
O Lord, thou wilt open my lips: and my mouth shall declare thy praise.
Pentecost. The gift of the Holy Spirit. The practice of offering oneself as a holocaust.
For if thou hadst desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: with burnt offerings thou wilt not be delighted.
The Old Covenant as imperfect or incomplete, and in need of perfection or fulfillment.
A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Deal favourably, O Lord, in thy good will with Sion; that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.
Then shalt thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations and whole burnt offerings:
then shall they lay calves upon thy altar.
The New, Heavenly and unassailable Jerusalem (the Church, against which the gates of Hell shall not prevail). The Mass as the perfect and only acceptable true offering and sacrifice to God, which is the seal of the Eternal Covenant and shall be perpetuated forever, even in Heaven.*
This is a prayer of King David.
