Lack of reaction from the flock is revealing and sobering. The poor flock is directionless and unable.

So Jesus said to him, “What you are going to do, do quickly.” John 13:27

The October Youth Synod will soon be here.

I think this is similar to throwing a lighted match into gasoline. I don’t see how this archbishop is doing any good for anybody.

If what he is saying is true, then he is bringing light where it needs to be shed.

God bless Archbishop Vigano for speaking out. The rot needs to be exposed even if it goes all the way to the very top.

I suppose that depends on whether or not there is truth to what he is saying. If it’s true that certain bishops and cardinals failed to act with regards to McCarrick, and seeing as how none of the 30+ prelates mentioned in his previous letter have said anything at all in response to that letter, then it makes sense that Vigano doesn’t want the story to simply slip out of public consciousness.

It’s certainly a strange time.

…very strange as far more respond to sex allegations in the Kavanaugh nomination. The drama is bad enough and the stakes are high but how does it outweigh the magnitude of what is happening in the Church today?
Cardinals, bishops and priests are surely making a note of this as the youth synod approaches.
Even if Archbishop Vigano changed his platform of communication and increased his evidence, I wonder if that would demand greater attention.
Recently, Cardinal Robert Sarah said “the whole society will implode and collapse on itself…without noise and under effects of an almost complete anesthesia of the public opinion”.

From the linked article:
Addressing Cardinal Ouellet, he said: “before I left for Washington, you were the one who told me of Pope Benedict’s sanctions on McCarrick. You have at your complete disposal key documents incriminating McCarrick and many in the curia for their cover-ups. Your Eminence, I urge you to bear witness to the truth.”
Bishops are commissioned by Christ to bear witness to the truth.

Wow. He threw down the gauntlet to both Pope Francis and Cardinal Ouellet. Let’s see if either of them reply.

I’m glad to see that he is not simply letting this die from silence. His accusations, right or wrong, require a proper accounting and response by the Pope and Vatican.

But no one is waiting for a “proper accounting”. People want Francis to say something now, nevermind if it is not complete on facts.

It is obvious to me that Pope Francis cannot trust anyone, when even his highest level advisors are not giving him all the details.

I would want all of the evidence to be gathered, then I would go through it myself, with only my most trusted people, before I said a word

I don’t know how you can say “no one” when it is obvious that many, if not most, of us are asking for the documents that are in the possession of the Vatican and Nunciature be revealed.

How do you know the Francis doesn’t have them all? And that he is not going through all the documents first to see what the truth really is? I imagine there are scores of documents to cull through, it will take time.

We have no clue what is going on we just want what we think is best and/or needed and we want it now. To hell with the actual truth.

He could have said that instead of acting like he wasn’t going to look at papers or address the questions raised at all.

He is very unresponsive and seems to not understand the effect that has on the people he is supposed to be shepherding.

Saying as much would have been an appropriate response, rather than back-handed references to attacks by Satan. This response is sadly similar to the absolutely disgusting and insulting response to the accusations out of Chile.

Regardless, we are awaiting an actual response to the accusations. If the Vatican is moving to make one, great. Given the track record of non-response and cold-shoulders to serious concerns from the faithful and clergy, however, the occaisional reminder that this issue isn’t going away is a good thing.

It is not going away. It can’t be forgotten. It surprising and awful how for so long the flock has been forced to sit and eat in a dirty barnyard.

The lack of reaction gives me a glimmer of hope that people might be smarter than I give them credit for, allowing this to play out instead of acting with mob mentality.

Reaction is certainly conservative and intelligent. The flock can’t do much more than wait and watch it unfold. It must unfold and give birth. It won’t be stillborn.
