I suppose that depends on whether or not there is truth to what he is saying. If it’s true that certain bishops and cardinals failed to act with regards to McCarrick, and seeing as how none of the 30+ prelates mentioned in his previous letter have said anything at all in response to that letter, then it makes sense that Vigano doesn’t want the story to simply slip out of public consciousness.I don’t see how this archbishop is doing any good for anybody.
Bishops are commissioned by Christ to bear witness to the truth.Addressing Cardinal Ouellet, he said: “before I left for Washington, you were the one who told me of Pope Benedict’s sanctions on McCarrick. You have at your complete disposal key documents incriminating McCarrick and many in the curia for their cover-ups. Your Eminence, I urge you to bear witness to the truth.”
I don’t know how you can say “no one” when it is obvious that many, if not most, of us are asking for the documents that are in the possession of the Vatican and Nunciature be revealed. But no one is waiting for a “proper accounting”. People want Francis to say something now, nevermind if it is not complete on facts.
He could have said that instead of acting like he wasn’t going to look at papers or address the questions raised at all.How do you know the Francis doesn’t have them all? And that he is not going through all the documents first to see what the truth really is?
Saying as much would have been an appropriate response, rather than back-handed references to attacks by Satan. This response is sadly similar to the absolutely disgusting and insulting response to the accusations out of Chile. How do you know the Francis doesn’t have them all? And that he is not going through all the documents first to see what the truth really is? I imagine there are scores of documents to cull through, it will take time.
The lack of reaction gives me a glimmer of hope that people might be smarter than I give them credit for, allowing this to play out instead of acting with mob mentality.Lack of reaction from the flock is revealing and sobering.
Reaction is certainly conservative and intelligent. The flock can’t do much more than wait and watch it unfold. It must unfold and give birth. It won’t be stillborn. The lack of reaction gives me a glimmer of hope that people might be smarter than I give them credit for, allowing this to play out instead of acting with mob mentality.
