And on top of that I’m a “trial” memeber…🙂 But I know what I know…🙂 I wonder/speculate about theses so callled “elders”…Guess I’ll hang around to find out…

They know what climate scientists are saying as well as or better than we do. They are at least as well equipped to understand and relate to the research as we are. I definitely agree with that, the ones with good education in meteorology. There was a meteorologist (a hydrologist actually) working for the NWS in the upper Midwest. Some 15 to 20 years ago he was predicting that bec of AGW there would be an increase in flooding in the upper Midwest. He was fired for having spoken about global warming (just before retirement, losing his pension), but he was right…there has been increased flooding there just as he predicted.

What keeps me mitigating AGW (and other efforts to reduce various harms to others) is “Thou shalt not kill,” another precept in the Bible that both pertains to this world and the next, but more than that is that He first loved us with a compelling love that commands a return response. How can we persist in harming His “this-world” creation, including our fellow humans, in light of such a gracious, loving, giving, forgiving, redeeming, friendly God?

And we ARE harming and killing people through AGW, on into the future. And IF God doesn’t end the world very soon by some other means and IF we refuse to mitigate and/or adapt, then that killing which we are contributing to today will go on harming and killing for 1000s of years.

Even in Revelations it is human sinfulness in that brings about the end of the world.

I’m thinking we can’t really separate the here & now from the spiritual world and hereafter. They both interpenetrate in various ways. “In the world, but not of the world.” It is our very inordinate attachment to this world that is causing AGW: Gluttony, sloth, avarice, pride, envy, keeping up with the Joneses…

But on the other hand, God hears our prayers and helps in mind-boggling ways for us to reduce our harms to others and to His creation “in this world.” His lifts us up when we stumble. He leads us to truth, righteousness, and goodness. He holds us in the palm of His hand.

And quite possibly He is lifting us up by allowing the MMGW scare to recede. Most people don’t believe in it anymore, or at least don’t think it’s a serious problem.

I realize that to some it’s a holy quest. Guided as it is by some truly awful people who obviously don’t believe in it themselves, one hesitates to think of it as holy.

And when political MMGW (and political MMGW is what it’s really all about) continues to cause increasing hardships on people, it’s the very antithesis of a holy quest.

Looks like that 13 year hiatus is coming to and end and the warming will be continuing.

Doesn’t make me happy; as it is with the warming we have to date there is a significant increase in harmful weather events (droughts, floods, storms, heatwaves, etc).

What would make me happy is if everyone would get on the bandwagon and mitigate AGW. We don’t really want even worse harmful and killing effects.

It’s been an 18 yr hiatus, and I’m guessing you didn’t look at the link you posted? The graph clearly shows 2010 (orange line) was consistently hotter.

My point is for all to realize that the proponents of AGW are misleading when they imply we can ‘fix this problem’ and we need to do so URGENTLY! As noted, even if we completely stopping 100% of man made CO2, it won’t have an impact for centuries.

Whether it’s man made or by nature, our only option is to adapt to our changing environment. We should address the science but stop the alarmism.

I feel the leaders of the MMGW quest have done serious harm to the planet.
Think of all the energy wasted battling the carbon windmill?

Just a fraction of that energy and $ could have helped restore our global fish populations.
So many legitimate environmental issues were not addressed.

I am left wondering what this serious harm to the planet might be. Could you enlighten us?

I had no opportunity/time to participate in this discussion for some weeks and apologise for any unanswered questions I have been asked. I am happy to have a go now if you repeat the question.

Looking at the whole discussion from a distance, you sense the weird situation that people who fear the consequences of global warming (the majority and the sensible ones) actually look forward to rising temperatures because that would prove the deniers wrong.

Another thought: that temperature maximum in 1998, which every denier takes as the reference point, was due to an exceptionally strong El Niño event. Nobody is doubting that fact. In the meantime temperatures have been creeping up slowly.
Question: if we had a similarly strong El Niño event now, does anybody doubt that we’ll hit a new maximum?
 
It’s amazing to me that the global warming freaks are so arrogant to believe that man can make immediate changes that will influence the environment and stop these so-called climate problems. The earth’s atmosphere and environment and climate are so complex and this notion that if we all drive electric cars and carry cloth bags to the grocery store that’s going to fix everything. Or better yet, higher taxes on energy will have some effect on things. Arrogance and elitism at its worst.

Another other thought: the temperature maximum of 1998 is in fact not the reference point. The warming hiatus actually extends back to the end of 1996, which means that even including the exceptionally strong El Niño event the Earth’s surface temperature has not warmed in 18 and a half years.

Regarding the belief that temperatures are creeping up slowly, there (again) is in fact no statistically meaningful change in temperature, and even if there was it is nothing like the increase predicted by virtually every climate model. The deviation between prediction and fact increases monthly, to the point where even those who firmly believe in AGW recognize that unless warming resumes in the next year or two the models will have to be rejected as unusable.

Perhaps you should read what people actually post and not play with strawmen.

Skeptics believe CO2 is a GHG but they have serious questions about the validity of the climate models that have failed to pass the scientific method.
