Why are the pro liberal catholics on this forum ridiculed yet xenophobia is allowed?
Why can we be racist but not say we like Obama?
Why can we be racist but not say we like Obama?
No I’m saying that people are not ridiculed on this forum for being racist, yet Obama voters are ridiculed.I don’t get what you mean by, “Why can we be racist but not say we like Obama?” Racism is tolerated in the Catholic forum? You can be racist and like Obama?
Although I have heard of racist people voting for Obama, because the country is in ruin and they really are putting aside racism for economic stability.
I think xenophobia and conservatism often go hand in hand though. Oftentimes I think conservatism is only translated as “I don’t think for myself, and if it works don’t fix it.” But I wish conservatism meant, “Don’t ridicule the past, it has an important role in how to interpret the future. We should look at and grow as better people.”
You are wrong…people are ridiculed for racism regularly on this forum, when it occurs. No I’m saying that people are not ridiculed on this forum for being racist, yet Obama voters are ridiculed.
Hopefully no one is “ridiculing” any person, but any of our opinions are open for ridicule if we choose to put them out there at all.No I’m saying that people are not ridiculed on this forum for being racist, yet Obama voters are ridiculed.
Please look up “xenophobia” in the dictionary. Why are the pro liberal catholics on this forum ridiculed yet xenophobia is allowed?

intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries. Please look up “xenophobia” in the dictionary.
iow…nothing to do with “race.”intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries.
Apologies, exchange racism for xenophobia then.iow…nothing to do with “race.”![]()
No problem.Apologies, exchange racism for xenophobia then.
I wasn’t talking about the race of a candidate. I agree with you though.Catholics are taught to Not Kill - esp. innocent humans from conception to natural death. Most (if not all) Catholics that I’ve spoken to have no feeling (this is the NW, but I haven’t seen racism here since before the 60s, if ever) of racism or xenophobia, however they won’t vote for a someone who supports baby-killing just because they’re not white or foreign, either.![]()
Did I ever say that the Obama voting thing was about race?I’ve seen racism in just two threads, coming from either two or three posters, who I think aren’t here anymore, in my total of two-and-a-half years here. It was vehemently fought against by the entire membership. We don’t put up with racism. As to xenophobia, how could such exist in an international forum with members from all over the world? If you’re just assuming the general tendency not to vote for Obama around here is racist, you aren’t reading the threads.
You mentioned Obama in the same clause as racism. I was asking if that what you meant or not. Otherwise I haven’t got the faintest notion what you meant about Obama.Did I ever say that the Obama voting thing was about race?
There is a lot of xenophobia here, especially against immigrant cultures like mexican parades in the USA.
I used it as an example of how people are ostracized for voting a democrat. You mentioned Obama in the same clause as racism. I was asking if that what you meant or not. Otherwise I haven’t got the faintest notion what you meant about Obama.
I don’t remember any xenophobia about Mexican parades. I remember a long time ago some people were asking about the significance of the use of the Mexican flag in a parade, as to whether it signified a continuing wish to be Mexican citizens. If it does, then I for one don’t understand. Surely becoming an American citizen, especially when living in the USA, offers great benefits. I think the process should be made easier and quicker, and encouraged. Those who still want to be citizens of their own lands may certainly do so, I simply don’t know why they would choose such a complicated way of life.![]()
I haven’t heard anything about “mexican parades,” but I did hear someone mention immigration protests where people didn’t show up for work to protest immigration laws. If that is what you are talking about, the person could just be concerned about illegal immigration or racist or both. It is hard to tell sometimes. However, if someone says something blatantly racist, then I, and most people, call them on it.Did I ever say that the Obama voting thing was about race?

Well I have clarified that now.BTW…You did tie Obama voting to Xenophobia/Racism by mentioning Obama voting in the first post.
I have problems your premise, obviously, or I wouldn’t have requested specific examples. But for the sheer sake of argument…Why are the pro liberal catholics on this forum ridiculed
Same reason pro life Catholics are demeaned.
yet xenophobia is allowed?
Examples, please.
Why can we be racist but not say we like Obama?
Again, specific examples, please
