Well after Santa came yesterday my children decided they wanted to play with their friends… Well since it’s freezing cold and one of my good friends-neighbor-is having issues with Christmas, they were not in a good mood to celebrate at all…And didn’t want visitors…

When I tried to explain to my kids they were all disappointed and sad because they hadn’t seen their friend in many weeks, their mother, my neighbor-friend, has been keeping him as far away as possible from anyone… Even though she asked for advise on how to deal with Christmas this year and how she didn’t want to rub her lack of enthusiasm and appreciation for Christmas to her son, she didn’t listen to reason and kept him locked up…

I called her to wish her a Merry Christmas, she didn’t answer…About 2 hours later she called and wished the same… By then the kids wanted to drop off his gift, my friend’s son’s gift… So I walked them over there, we knocked on the door, and her son opened the door. She was in the bathroom and I told him he didn’t have to bother her that we were just wishing him a Merry Christmas since I had all ready spoken with his mother… And that the kids wanted to give him a gift…

He had this angry look on his face and a look of frustration… then he changed to a look of confusion and was surprised… The kids were so glad to share with him this little gift and wished him a Merry Christmas… He took the gift and thanked them… Before we started saying our good byes and walking back home my kids told him they were so happy that Santa came and asked him if Santa had come to his house…

He started laughing and told them they were “idiots” and that Santa didn’t exist… That his mother was his Santa and that I was my children’s Santa, and as soon as I heard him I interrupted him as fast as I could… Perhaps it was wrong for me to do so but I asked him to please call his mother, I needed to talk to him… when he was like “yeah sure but let me finish!” I interrupted him again and told him to please call to her… He screamed for her and when I saw he wouldn’t go back into his house, I sent my disappointed, frozen and surprised kids home… Then I told him I had to go…And just left…

I told my kids about St. Nicholas, and that Santa was indeed real… When he lived and gave and how he was still living and giving… I didn’t go into the whole fakeness deal too much nor how Santa is just a spirit of giving since I didn’t stop believing in Santa until I was a teen and I loved the whole innocence of Christmas and hope to keep this innocence for my kids…

Now my daughter has this doubt big time, since as soon as she was able to she got in contact with our neighbor’s son again and he told her that the parents hide the gifts…She told me that her other friend said the same thing last year… And I asked her if she believed in Santa or what 2 people have said???

She answered she did believe in Santa…And that she just didn’t understand that if she believed in him and others didn’t why they couldn’t just keep their comments to themselves???

Even though she’s still with the little seed of doubt planted, she’s trying to make the best of it… I know next year I will have to hear it again, and even though I feel she’s not ready yet for the whole truth, I will continue to keeping St. Nichola’s love of giving alive, and we will continue our Santa time with my children…Hopefully I will not have to explain too much next year and hopefully I will have a couple of more years to tell her the truth…

I haven’t spoken with my friend since Christmas and I do hope she and her son are having a great time… I know they are supposed to be with her sister today so hopefully they will have a great weekend!! 😃

Even though I understand everyone has different ways or beliefs, I don’t let my children influence other’s with what they believe unless I know it’s about a sinful action…and they have been asked for their opinions…

In the midst of it all, my kids were so happy they were able to receive some Santa gifts even though they were afraid they were all in the naughty list!!! 😛

Hmm…I remember when someone from school told me that Santa wasn’t real, Christmas wasn’t as fun as it used to be.

I thought Santa really did leave behind those Catholic CDs and statues I had asked for in my letters. 🤷

A child at Meg’s old school told her there was no Santa. I think I’ve told this one earlier, that the same girl has such a wealthy family that she got a live horse for her First Communion (and what do horses have to do with the Eucharist, right).

Meg CHOSE to believe in Satna when we discussed it. She had her first St. Nick trip this Dec. 6th. She’s told kids on the bus that their parents might buy them gifts, but she gets hers from Santa. And she’s 9.

Daisy is ambivalent about Santa. She likes him, is in no great hurry to lose him- but sometimes she slips and tells us stuff such as, “When you pick up my present, opps, when Santa picks up my present…”

If you click my signature link, you’ll see my republished blog entry on my contractual rlationship with Santa. 😃 In fact, the eve before Christmas Eve, some belves (boy elves) got hold of pickles and a couple cans of soda, and had to be lasooed off the ceiling. I had to go up to the North Pole and clean the pickles from the back and sides of the servers, then reset.

As for your friend, she needs to teach her child better manners. It’s one thing to tell him her version, but another thing entirely for her kid to spoil it for others.

AW… That’s cute… I am sorry to hear that… I am afraid that’s what’s happened to my daughter as well!! 😦 I hope not though because I know that she enjoys this innocent magical time… 😦

I like your story I will check out the blog… I think my kids will like hearing that story… I will tell them maybe it will help my daughter keep her belief in Santa a little longer!! lol… Thanks for sharing…

Yeah it’s unfortunate… Really sad when some kids do that you know? I mean when I was little everyone would say Santa didn’t exist but I “knew” better… But I am not my daughter… AND I think she takes after her uncles, as soon as someone opened their mouths about not believing in SANTA and how parents hide the gifts etc etc etc, they were the first ones to try and prove those kids right… 😦 Ever since they never enjoyed their Christmasses the same…

I am sorry to hear of what you experienced. It must be the year for it. My neice (who is 6) was over two days after Christmas. She stayed a few hours to play while her parents were doing something. We had a really nice time…my girls are 4, 6, and 7 so everyone got along great.
Half way thru the visit she came down and said that my youngest told her she got a toy from Santa and asked it this was true. I said “yes, it was under the tree.” She said, “well, my mom said that Santa isn’t real and that anyone who tells me he is …is a liar.” She let my 4 yr. old know it too.
I said, well, momma should let you know that we need to respect other people’s beliefs and I don’t think that this is open for discussion anymore.
So I understand your situation completely and I felt totally caught off guard.

I just don’t get it…it’s understandable to tell your kids the “truth” about Santa but I feel that they should also let them know and teach them not to you know, “share” that information to other children… I mean with adult stuff fine you know tell it like it is but kids you know? That kind of ruins important childhood feelings… 😦

Before I was able to handle the “mommy they said there’s no Santa!!” Because my kids were a lot younger, my daughter is turning 11, and it’s getting more and more difficult to play it out and to tell her the complete truth… I mean St Nick does exist and all but it’s not really St Nick who’s delivering their toys for Christmas!!! 😦

I just hope this coming year it isn’t more difficult… I mean my sister and I didn’t find out till our early teens, call us naive but we loved our childhood and Christmas was the best part of it thanks to Santa…I just want the same for my kids…since they are growing up so fast…

I am sorry that happened. I have never done the santa thing with my kids, but I have always tried to explain to them that it is important not to belittle others belief’s, and that some parents want thier kids to believe. I am happy to say they have never (to my knowledge) told another child, or laughed at one for believing.

However, sadly in this day and age we all need to accept that some kid somewhere is going to try to ruin it. This is happening earlier and earlier. I heard the 1st graders arguing about whether or not Santa is real. We might as well teach them now to stand up for what they believe in, because soon it won’t be just Santa the other kids are telling them isn’t real, it will be God, Jesus, the church. They need to learn to have faith in their own morals and belief’s.

I was 7 years old when I figured out the Santa Claus thing for myself, so I am a bit surprised that 10 and 11 year olds still believe, but I’m happy they do–it makes Christmas more fun.

However, even at 7, I had enough sense not to tell my little brother, OR my Mother, because both would have been disappointed. It sounds like this little boy is a bit angry about there not being a Santa, and has decided that if he doesn’t believe, no one else should. That is sad.

On Christmas Eve when Father was ready to give his homily he asked first if he could get some four and five year olds up front to help him out. The kids came up all dressed in their Christmas best. They gathered around the manger scene. Father asked them if they could tell him where santa lived, oh yes they said one girl yelled out “He lives at the north pole” Father asked a little boy if he knew and his reply to father was “my dad told me that he doesn’t really believe there is a santa” Father very slowly turned and looked over his shoulder at the huge Christmas eve crowd, then went back to the kids. He asked them next where does Jesus live, they answered all kinds of things like he lives in that manger right there, and he lives in that big gold thing(the tabernacle), one little girl pointed to the crucifix and said he lives there, one pointed at her heart and said “he lives here” It was very beautiful. At the end of Mass when father was making his announcements and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas he added at the end “and the father that isn’t sure about santa…I’d like you to come see me after Mass” He had the crowd in stitches.
