Yet another question about Eastern Catholics and Adoration

Good response. I understand your concern. And this is good you explain this. I think the OP was very sincere in their inquiry and a lot of Eastern traditions are not understood by the western rite. Many dont understand the difference between EO and Eastern Catholic or understand the Eastern Catholic history or how they tie in with the the Latin Church. Basically most Latin practitioners know little to nothing about Eastern Catholicism. This is important for Eastern Catholics to be aware of and some tend tend to be very defensive but may not offer an explanation of the “whys” of EC practices. In most areas in the US, EC churches are far and few between. They are intriguing to some Latins but they don’t really know the questions to ask to learn more about them. In the US since many Eastern European communities are diminishing the future of the EC churches in the US may depend on converts to survive.

Honestly, it all boils down to the fact that Eucharistic adoration as such never developed in the East.

And it would be wrong to try to impose a strictly Western devotional practice on the East - the Eastern Churches have suffered enough Latinizations as it is, and these serve as a major stumblingblock to reunification with the Orthodox Churches… The Orthodox are, IMO rightly, worried that their traditions and spiritual heritage will be defiled if they reunite with Rome.

It’s quite sickening seeing how severely Latinized some of the Eastern Catholic Churches are. The Maronites for example, liturgically speaking look almost identical to the OF Roman Rite. They don’t look even the least bit Eastern.

Regarding Maronites-They don’t have Slavic or Greek origins so culturally they have always been different than the other Eastern churches. And they have always been more closely linked to Rome than the others.

I agree to the extent that the Maronite Church as we know it right now is heavily latinized. I do think it depends on a parish to parish basis, and the bishop who heads the particular Eparchy. There are some very traditional priests who do their best to instruct in true Maronite traditions and spirituality.

I take offense to the remark that the Maronite Divine Liturgy looks “almost identical to the OF Roman Rite”, “Don’t even look the least bit Eastern”. I don’t see how you could even possibly think that if you attended the Divine Liturgy at my parish.
I think that kind of comment is a “throw off” that’s often repeated by people who’ve never even attended a Maronite Divine Liturgy.
I just find those kinds of comments offensive, and they discourage others from visiting a Maronite Divine Liturgy.
I’ve said what I wanted to say. I don’t need your apology.

I don’t think your observations remove them from consideration as EAstern churches. They are still not Latin.

I didn’t flag your post, but you are being a little uncharitable to the minions, I mean moderators. It is easy to forget the little guy when you are obviously a VIP.

In defense of Spyridon, I do have a very Orthodox Maronite priest, however, we visited our bishop’s Cathedral for Divine Liturgy and I have not been the same ever since. It was what he described.

Oh, I know, I can imagine. I probably know where you were.

That was my point in posting that…

I didn’t mean to say ALL Maronites are like that…

But some Maronite parishes are mangled by Latinization to the point where you can see nearly nothing Eastern about them… It’s an objective fact.

Father, I am so sorry that you got flagged. This is incredibly sad, even if you had said something wrong we owe you and every priest, as Our Lord’s representatives and our spiritual fathers deep respect and gratitude. Thank you for being on CAF and most importantly for your vocation and service.

I looked back at the original post and see that there was a typo “I hope you take this as an offense” which I corrected to “I hope you don’t take this as an offense”, but by then people had already copied it and maybe this led to the confusion. Who knows. Maybe they didn’t like me quoting from the Catechism.

I’m a Chaldean! My Church actually opened up a chapel a few years back and our Priest urges us to go to Adoration. They want to have every time slot filled, so many people sign up and promise to go at a certain time in the week. Many times, during the announcements after Mass, the priest will ask people to go for a Holy Hour whenever they can, because it’s important to have adorers when the Eucharist is exposed. I love Adoration and I find it very peaceful and beautiful, as do all of the people that I know who have been to Adoration. I’m really glad we have this opportunity.

God bless!

I’m a Maronite and we generally do NOT have Eucharistic Adoration outside of Holy Mass
EXCEPT on Holy Thursday following the Holy Mass.

It’s hidden, but still “likeable”; and I just “liked” the post.

There was absolutely nothing within it that violated forum rules. I find the flagging of it particularly ironic considering the number of posts I’ve seen this weekend that have been critical of Eastern Catholics and our practices.

I don’t understand why the post is still hidden. Aren’t flagged posts hidden temporarily and then reviewed? Shouldn’t it either be unflagged or removed at this point?

I think once the flags hit a certain level, the post just stays hidden.
I have no idea how it got that many flags. Like I explained in the earlier post, I didn’t flag it…I found it slightly veering off the topic I wanted to discuss, but I didn’t see a TOS violation or a major shift off topic especially since it was just one post and not a derailing of the thread.
