I would advocate it only because I don’t get into the meditation… I’m a physical therapist. I told a patient one time that he was tight in every single muscle he shouldn’t be. I mean the guy was like molasses in January tight if you know what I mean. He said he tries to stretch but he can’t get any where with it. When I suggested Yoga (Longer more sustained stretching) he said that’s un-Christian and he wouldn’t think of doing it. That is the first I heard of this being un-Christian as I was unaware of the whole meditation thing… Does that make sense?
Yes. Thank you for sharing that! 🙂 I think the guy showed a lot of faith actually if he was willing to sacrifice his comfort for God. That’s some story!

So there are alternatives then.

How many curse words did you say under your breath to yourself in-between posts with me on this topic 😃
None… I liken it to defending myself for the “evils” of saying the Hail Mary with the rosary beads in my hand:)

Do you mean: “By saying the Hail Mary”.

Rosary beads, or originally worry beads, have indeed been reattributed to their intended place. There is a time and a place for things - all for the glory of God!

I could start a thread on The Wuzzles and how it inspired genetic selection.

However, you are assuming that because a few priests do this they somehow represent the whole Church. But it does not take away their authority as priests, sure. That would be for God to do and not for us to judge. People don’t respect priests nearly enough.
Actually, I know that the priests I mentioned are unique in that they have seriously sought to show that practices like yoga and meditation are, to a certain extent, compatible with Catholic Christianity, and they have done so, at least to my satisfaction, while remaining faithful and obedient priests. But I am also well aware that there are other points of view within the spectrum of our Faith, which is why I often respond to threads like these :). It is a conversation worth having, I think.

OK, Cobra is a position where you lie on your stomach and press up while leaving your hips on the ground. It’s to stretch out your low back and hip flexors. I always thought it was called cobra because you kind of look like a cobra when you do it… Much like the “downward dog” where you look like how a dog stretches when you do it. I never really made the connection between “cobra” and a serpent or whatever…

Yes, I agree, and an interesting topic at that. 🙂

There are other positions. Going to have to check up again. Probably get converted to Yoga in the meantime. Pray for me! I’ll get back. The one I was talking about I thought was more complicated than the one you’ve said about. It doesn’t sound difficult enough. If it is, then why on earth connect it with Yoga at all, seriously, it seems to me that Yogis are Bogis, if this is the case.

Hummmmm.

Ptisme, There are more complicated ones. I have done this but different in the way the head seems to tilt. I used to stretch my back as an exercise before and after simple weight lifting.

The pictures of these Fame extras from the eighties on Google Images look as if the position entails (excuse the pun) lifting the head up as if hissing to Adam. The Yoga-ooers, don’t have to hiss, do they? This is not ordered by the Bogi?

'Naga-asana - The Cobra Pose

Posture: Naga-asana - The Cobra Pose

Translation: The Sanskrit word naga means snake or serpent. The naga-asana is also known as the bhujanga-asana. The Sanskrit word bhujanga, which also means snake, is derived from the root bhuj which means to bend or curve.

Pronunciation: na-gah-sa-na

Difficulty: (4-5)

“Let the body, from navel to toes, touch the ground, the palms placed upon the ground, and raise gently the upper part of the body (from navel to head) like a snake. This posture increases the gastric fire; it destroys all diseases and by constant practice leads to the awakening of Kundalini.”
The Gheranda-samhita II.42-43.’

But who is their authority…!

Kundalini sounds like pasta dish or something: “I’ll go heat up some Kundalini”. We need to take the microwave power back, seriously folks.

I don’t know about all that awakening stuff… I just realized the reason I like yoga more than regular stretching is it’s more functional and demands you use your core strength while stretching which is key for me…

The internet is full of them. However, I can only make a link to the image that stood out for me, and don’t really want to make a link to a yoga website. It seems that some people’s heads face straight forward which to me seems to represent a simple pose that isn’t anything in particular; some people’s heads seem to crook awkwardly upwards and this seems to give across the image of a snake and something more specific - hence, my comment about hissing; and one image where the legs coil behind the back and touch the shoulders - this doesn’t really look as if it represents a particular shape but might be to do with a coiling snake or something.

It is the one where the head seems to be angled upwards that I think people go on about Kundalini and releasing the serpent - I think it might be because of the angle of the head which affects the spine which in turn affects the base of the spine. Maybe it is not good for that area or maybe the bend in the back releases some kind of inner (dodgy) sensuality/sexuality feeling due to the spinal fluid in that area being gushed about. Sounds grossssssse though!

We use incense at Mass.
Incense has been used in most eastern cultures and religions, not just pagan ones, and not only for worship but also for everyday bargaining, and of course used by the wealthy. So not just used in pagan rituals. If something is around and about it is going to be used. Thanks for your posts so far.
