This man looks kind of like Jafar. More proof of Yoga being demonic!
I like the picture myself. The Holy man appears to have a kindly and good humoured face -normally the sign of a man at peace, in Christ - and is standing in a position that suggests being firmly rooted on solid Rock - adorned with cross in one hand and what seems to be a crosier in the other.

Hi there! 🙂

Matthew 16:18-19: “So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it. I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in Heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered loosed in Heaven.”
Why would the church give her blessing to one form of exercise and not others?

I will sign off with this. Being a Catholic is about many things: it’s about taking up your cross. It’s about loving and forgiving your enemies. Following the commandments. It’s about charity and bringing joy to others. It’s about working hard but also enjoying yourself within the confines of what it means to be a Christian. But isn’t about being scared of Satan. Your body is your temple which houses Jesus, and it behooves you to take care of it. If taking care of it means doing aggressive stretching that is called Yoga then you can do that while wearing the armor of Jesus Christ. You can focus on Jesus rather than meditating or humming or whatever they do over in Asia. When you are a follower of Christ, and faith is your bedrock. You don’t fear Satan or anything he stands for because you are a follower of the one who carried the cross. God wants us to be happy, obedient servants, not cowards in fear of Satan. Satan is the coward. God bless.

Nice post 👍, has to be said, very true, BUT…

…no one, from what I’ve read, is fearing Satan here on this thread! It is about using one’s wisdom to discern what is advisable from negligent. This takes real COURAGE, to stand amongst the crowd and go: “You know what, despite popular opinion, I am going to stick with Christianity!” or “You know what, maybe I’ll sacrifice feeling nice and wonderful, and offer up my difficulties instead, and wait for the Church to make a definite pronouncement on the subject out of obedience if nothing else.”

And Yoga is rife in the West as well as Asia.

God bless.

🙂

I really wish you would stop suggesting that people who do (for instance p90x) yoga are being negligible. Why don’t you go on youtube and find p90x there before you judge what you don’t know. I’m out

For afore-mentioned reasons outlined in this thread - to cut the link.

And build new bridges.
I have to admit I don’t know what you are referring to here. You’ve made so many sarcastic and facetious comments that I wouldn’t know what you were serious about. You think yoga is wrong and I don’t think you really want the church to make it “binding.”

FWIW, the silly remarks you make about yoga may be to sound jolly or maybe to shame those who use yoga but ultimately it’s starting to sound childish. Like my ex-coworker who asked, “Lent. Isn’t that where you have to eat lentils?” The woman was raised Catholic so she should know but she typically made digs at things she didn’t understand. It got old.

I don’t fear Satan. I fear God. And God has blessed us with bodies. We should care for them as well as discipline them. Yoga stretches do both.

I’ll assess what I choose to assess, thank you. 😉

Up to you if you wish to allow yourself to feel personally slighted.

God bless.

Hi there! At last, an objective angle. True, our bodies are temples, it is a valid point, but aren’t we taught in Christianity to deny our bodies and take care of the Spirit within us?

An exorcist priest that once preached in my parish said that Yoga was linked with the devil, and to avoid it.

Oh yes, let’s use fear. It’s definitely a sweet ingredient for spirituality. Why not speak to people who let themselves ruled by fear and see if they’re really what you can call happy human beings.

(Oops! I forgot. Some people find it spiritual to be as miserable as possible in their daily life. 🤷)
Another great post Lost Wanderer.

All the best,
Gary

Hi again.

The jokes to one another were back and forwards and in jest until I went too far with one and took it back. If you read the thread properly you will see that. And as you will see I didn’t take any jibes towards myself too seriously as I guessed they were, for the most part, without ill intent. Whether you get what is being said or not is your issue not mine.

We are on a Catholic website not a Yoga one. If you feel personally slighted then you are free to leave…

God bless.

I’ve been on this forum a long time I get CAF and how threads work, so no need to disinvite me. I was trying to be helpful in case you didn’t know how your posts might be perceived by posters or lurkers. Nor am I slighted in the least. Why do you anticipate such dramatic reactions to your posts? You wondered how many cuss words another poster said while reading your posts and seem to virtually put up your hands in defense to suggest that those posting in favor of yoga need to calm down.

I think I see the issue here. Much dialogue back and forth between myself and a few others, including one particular conversation you mentioned where I said about cuss words, were in fact jokey banter, which the other poster who had posted some fun posts too, understood, which is why he put LOL (which means “laugh out loud”).

I do admit that I knew this thread would invite emotional responses, and am always a bit taken aback by personal attacks, but am no way suggesting that people HERE on this thread who participate in Yoga have been somehow twisted to the evil side. I actually feel quite sorry for when people say they have problems moving ligaments and the like. I tend to react more sharply with people when they begin assuming my inner-intentions, then I get a bit sharper, but this comes down to staying relaxed when one feels an attack and sometimes it is more possible than others.

I don’t know why this subject seems to make people defensive, and it follows a pattern, and this is telling. On a Christian website one’s identity is Christ, surely.

In terms of bringing the devil into things, this is not out of fear, or trying to scare people, although it doesn’t hurt to reveal truths which can be scary, it is about a subject which is on the fence in terms of opinion as to whether there are satanic links. I would understand the outcry at posts suggesting so if Yoga was accepted fully by the Church, but at present it doesn’t seem to be. If the Pope was to do an investigation and announce to the world that one’s intentions are enough to ensure total security from whatever presence is behind the belief of reincarnation, then fine. You have judged me by saying you don’t believe I’d think this or that. And I see no reason why, unless asked politely, I need to answer from a personal point-of-view.

I am not inviting you to leave I am saying it is your choice if you wish to stay or leave. Obviously, it would be nice if we could discuss without being over-sensitive and defensive.

So, Bruised Reed, if you wish to stay in the thread then great but let’s keep it in the now, or if you decide to leave, then I hope your life will be blessed, and wish you the best. I’d like you to stay, but up to you.

Again, why do you think any pushback to your comments is emotional or over sensitive? It seems that any response from those who disagree with you is interpreted as emotional. You asked why people seemed to be emotional about it; you got an answer and I agree with them. Basically it’s annoying to have one’s personal health and fitness choices criticized, especially if it’s done repeatedly. But maybe you’re the one getting emotional and projecting, covering by “joking.”

And if you want something from Pope Francis, do take it up with him. You go on and on about something binding, well none of here can do that for you.
