so people say doing yoga is bad…how can it be bad if you do it for the stretch and balance not the meditation…

Yoga is based on a Satan-sent FALSE religion. “For all the gods of the Gentiles are devils: but the Lord made the heavens.” - that is in the Douey Rheims BIBLE. Anything that is based on a religion of devils is a sure-fire primrose path to HELL.

Keep FAR, FAR AWAY from yoga! No Traditional Catholic has ever gotten ensnared in yoga I can guarantee you that. Many Traditional Popes condemned the teachings of false religions as SATANIC and thats what yoga is.

if you dont say the ‘prayers’ that go along with the movements it just seems like benign stretching to me, im a traditionalist meself, and i dont see whats wrong with stretching, now if you start to say those prayers then you are worshiping satan

The stretching, breathing and meditation is fine, just don’t get involved in the spirituality. I don’t think it may necessarily direct worship of Satan ( I don’t know the prayers) but it is sinful and damaging.

good grief.

the stretching and deep breathing is very good for you. I have an autoimmune disease and it’s one of the things that’s kept me from being bed-ridden for the last 5 years.

Many doctors prescribe yoga, tai chi, and other forms of exercise for the elderly, disabled, and those recovering from different injuries and ailments.

NO! The “stretching” and “breathing” is an act performed by many Hindoos. It is based in acts of Hindoo (false) worship and no Traditional Catholic should EVER get caught up in. Traditional Catholics were somehow able to stretch and breathe for 1962 years without instroducing the Hindoo religious element into our lives. Doing “yoga” you might as well put a dot on your forehead and dance around like John Paul 2.

Do NOT do yoga, even the stretching is a gateway to the hellacious religion of the Hindoos. A surefire path to lose your SOUL. You can stretch and breathe like a Traditional Catholic! 👍

I agree with you about yoga but an even easier way to lose your soul is to mock a successor of Peter, the representative of Our Lord on earth. 😦

And saying “hindoos” is like atheists purposefully lower-casing God. Doesn’t make any sense, and discredits you more than it discredits them…

Are you serious? Stretching is a gateway to apostasy and becoming a hindu? I’m pretty sure all that happened was some Indian people from a long time ago found some useful exercises, and then probably ascribed religion to them. Stretching and breathing is just taking advantage of the way your body works. To be honest, it just seems to me like you’re using post hoc ergo proctor hoc logic. 🤷

It seems trolling is present on every forum…

Anyway the idea that specific methods of stretching and breathing are sacrilegious is just silly. I had a lifetime fitness class in high school where one of the days of the week was spent on yoga and another on pilates. The yoga video had absolutely nothing religious about it and was just stretching and breathing. It even required so little mental activity that you could say a rosary during it if you were really worried about your thoughts magically becoming that of a Buddhist or Hindu. And there is always pilates if you don’t like yoga. It is a bit more active, and more likely to build up a sweat, but still accessible to any age group and a bit more beneficial to your health.

stop trolling man please, it is people like you who give a bad name to traditional catholics, if you truly were traditional you wouldn’t be insulting a former pope who is up for sainthood, btw its spelled hindu if you misspell it like that you appear to be an ignorant bigot

As long as you do yoga purely for the physical exercise, the Church allows it.

What it doesn’t allow is engaging in the spirituality aspect of yoga.

I think going to most gyms, you are safe.

Hatha yoga (stretching) seems like it would be permissable, though you should probably refrain from “ohms” or “aums”.

Other types of yoga (i.e. Bhakti yoga) are not permissable 🙂

I’m not a troll, but I’m ever so humbly sorry if Traditional viewpoints rattle your little world. In a Traditional Catholic world we do not take the practices of a heathen tribe who were condemned by many Holy Popes. “Yoga” is a gateway DRUG and there are many, many souls that were lost because people starting experimenting around with Godless practices because they looked harmess on the surface and then got drew ever further and further in. First you are just “stretching” and then before you know it you are “meditating,” which is the prayer of the Hindoo (false) gods. Which is a form of Satanic worship whether you like it or not! 😃

Oh and Google it, Hindoo is the Traditional spelling. 👍

so, after 20-25 years of doing yoga, when exactly is the “gateway drug” supposed to hit me? when is it I’m supposedly going to start meditating to the Hindu gods?

you have no clue what you’re talking about.

oh, and if you look up India’s National Newspaper, it’s The Hindu. Also, asked a couple of my friends who are from India.

If you are still dabbling in this hellacious practice then it already has, my friend, it already has. Maybe if you had fewer Hindoos for friends and more Traditional CATHOLICS you would not have gotten caught up in these Devil-sent temptations. I will say a Holy Rosary that the Blessed Mother may liberate you from the snares of Satan. 👍

For myself, I would say stay away from yoga as there are spiritual underpinnings to it.

I would go with pilates which I do not think has any religion behind it.

wow, you have some serious issues.

I have friends from literally all around the world due to work and I’m blessed to have them all, Hindu, Catholic, Buddhist, Protestant, and all I haven’t named. I’ll keep each and every one of them, thank you very much.

Please don’t feed the trolls. The forum has a handy Ignore list, and Mr.Lux will soon be on mine. Catholicism is too beautiful and precious to see it so muddled and abused by trolls.

To the OP, I concur with others that yoga as a purely physical exercise is perfectly okay for devout Catholics to engage in.
