It seems a present that we live in a very polarized Church, where many Catholics seem to be divided.
In the Church there seems strong antipathy between progressives and traditionalists, liberals and conservative, left and right, blue and red, cradle Catholics and converts, Europeans and Americans, etc.
Some time ago as a preliminary to this discussion I sought a list of new lay Catholic groups. The discussion degenerated into an attach where accusations of relativism were made.
At present some Catholics do not go to Mass, believe in contraception etc. while others practise more.
Can we not unite in our common religion and focus on the importance of loving God and neighbor?
Or should we write off those who are a bit wobbly, yet remembering we are all sinners needing God’s mercy.
For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Gal. 3:27-28 NAB)
This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." (Jn. 13:35 NAB)
I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and in the same purpose. (1 Cor. 1:10 NAB)
