You Decide-Do you Fear Hell?

after hearing the kackling of the ladies on the view, I fear anywhere they are going.
 
Of course I do. It’s a real possiblity for all of us. I could commit a mortal sin one moment and die the next. It happens.

My faith is strong, and my penance sincere, but until I am judged, I have no right to assume or expect that I will get to Heaven, or even Purgatory. Many of the Saints would have agreed, which sometimes can help explain their piety.
 
I absolutely fear Hell and the loss of Heaven. I hope to make it to Purgatory at least! 😃
 
Going to hell is the least of my concerns…I am in Good Hands…the Best Hands and Best Place to be…

If you’ve seen the film, the statement can be interpreted rather philosophically. In fact, it was this very statement which led to my figuring out the mystery at the heart of the film.
 
Although I know I am a great sinner I do not fear hell simply because I trust in Gods mercy. I have mortal sins that I have yet to confess to a priest however I have confessed these to God. He knows me more intimately than I know myself and though many times I have chosen evil over doing/thinking what is right and good in His sight I trust in His infinite mercy and believe He forgives me every time I go to Him in genuine remorse. He knows I love Him and I fear Him only. Yes, I know I need to go to confession asap.
 
I fear hell.

St. Padre Pio, as Holy and Pious as he was-all the Charisms of the Holy Spirit he was blessed with-and he trembled at the thought of his own Judgement.

The Hell There Is!

…The early Church Fathers were also absolutely firm on the reality of an eternal hell, as the following quotes show……

Ignatius of Antioch
“Corrupters of families will not inherit the kingdom of God. And if they who do these things according to the flesh suffer death, how much more if a man corrupt by evil teaching the faith of God for the sake of which Jesus Christ was crucified? A man become so foul will depart into unquenchable fire: and so will anyone who listens to him” (Letter to the Ephesians 16:1–2 [A.D. 110]).

Justin Martyr
"No more is it possible for the evildoer, the avaricious, and the treacherous to hide from God than it is for the virtuous. Every man will receive the eternal punishment or reward which his actions deserve. Indeed, if all men recognized this, no one would choose evil even for a short time, knowing that he would incur the eternal sentence of fire…

However, on the other hand, remember always:

The graces of My mercy are drawn by means of one vessel only, and that is trust. The more a soul trusts, the more it will receive (Divine Mercy in My Soul Diary 1578).

Trust in The Lord. We have to. Where else shall we go?

Thanks Dawn- that’s a beautiful explanation. I confess to constantly being worried about the day I will face God and what He is going to say to me…am I going with the sheep or the goats? However, I DO believe that trust in God is paramount. Every single soul in hell has CHOSEN to be there. God condemns no one. We must trust in His Mercy. St. Therese wrote that she loved God’s justice, for He takes into account our weakness. I sure hope He takes into account my colossal weaknesses!😃
 
My Gods do not need to use the threat of eternal torture to get us to love them.

Considering He’s omniscient and all, I’m pretty sure my God sees past the “I’ll be good because Hell’s scary” motivation. 😃

Well your Church calls it imperfect contrition and does consider it valid…

Well if you call the threat of eternal torment from a being that could easily have made it Heaven or a place like the Limbo of Dante’s inferno love…
 
Fear hell?..No I have too much hope for heaven…

I know I have no guarentee outside of our Lord’s mercy, but that is enough for me to have great hope
