going and murdering because Muslims say something bad about Jesus. Some Muslims insult Jesus all the time! But wait…if a catholic insults Muhammed, God forbid, that is terribly wrong. In most cases it deserves capital punishment! You don’t see catholics killing people because they offended Jesus. But you see Muslims killing people because they offend Muhammed. I read a news paper story where a big naked Jesus statue maid out of dog turds was put in a museum. Nobody cared, infact who hears about it? But if the same thing was made about Muhammed…the world would go crazy!! :mad:
 
The mohammedan holy book actually teaches them to kill us if we will not convert :mad: The True Word of God teaches differently.
In my personal experience the only Muslims we can get along with are the ones that are the equivalent of back slidden Baptists or fallen away Catholics.
 
I understand your frustration but you have to let it go. We are not called to worry about what other people or groups of people are doing and why. We are called to a life of holiness. Because of that we hold ourselves to a higher standard. We return evil for evil to no one. We pray for our enemies.

Try harder. Trust in God. Do not be afraid.

This fact is frustrating for sure. Yet the real issue is in the behavior of the Islamist and not in comparing our actions to there actions. Jesus would not want me to burn down the museum for the statue of jesus naked. If he did then he would be a false messia just like muhammed is a false prophet.

I think most jews and christians (and hopefully muslims) can or should agree that radical islam leaves no room in its theology for a world that accepts jews and christians. Much like secularism, it seeks to remove the bible from humanity. You can say what you want about atrocities committed in the name of God and religion, but in the end, it is a world without fear of God that poses the biggest threat to our lives. (IMO)

Well, apparently you heard about it, so you should be able to provide at least some reference for this. Sorry, got to follow this one up. Which newspaper? Which museum (even the country–for either one–would help)? Approximately when (as in year, even)? Odd that I can find no reference to any variation of such a story on the Internet, where urban legends (and this has all the hallmarks of one) run rampant for decades.
 
Wasn’t there a portrait of Mary “painted” with elephant poo? And one so-called ‘artist’ displayed a Crucifix in a bucket of urine? No violent backlash.

But a cartoon depicting the Muslim founder (not done with the intention of offending), and riots break out.

There was a public backlash, and part of my point is that information is available on these

Giuliani (mayor of New York at the time) threatened the Brooklyn with loss of funding and city support.

There was also public outcry against Andres Serrano’s “Piss Christ” which I believe is the other work referenced

My question is not about whether there is backlash in such cases (there was), nor whether that backlash should be violent (it should not), but whether this statue mentioned by djamu actually exists or is an urban legend (and I can’t even find evidence of such a legend, which I find suspicious).
 
I would have to agree with djamu here. When Salman Rushde wrote The Satanic Verses, radical Islam called for him to be killed, and he lives in hiding to this very day. OTOH, Dan Brown writes the Da Vinci Code and he’s hailed as a great writer. For his next work, I’d like to see him write The Mohammed Code and see what happens… :rolleyes:

I would care if I knew about this statue. I would feel insulted of course. However, how I would take action is different way - non-violence way. I believe in praying is the most effective way.
 
Why aren’t Muslims upset over this?
  1. They accept Jesus as a prophet of God.
  2. They frown upon portraying prophets.
  3. Using dung as the building material would be an expression of contempt.

Perhaps because Jesus is not *the *prophet (at least in their eyes)?
 
How can a Muslim say there are multiple prophets, and then speak of Muhammed as if he alone was the only prophet?

Perhaps because such a statue does not exist? I am still waiting for information from the OP that shows that this story has any basis in reality as I can find absolutely no reference to it online.

Several weeks ago, New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani announced that the city would cut its funding to the Brooklyn Art Museum unless the museum canceled an upcoming exhibition. Titled Sensation, the show included installations containing animals in formaldehyde and sculptures of people with genitalia replacing their faces. The mayor was particularly offended by The Holy Virgin Mary, a 1996 collage by Chris Ofili, an award-winning British artist, which incorporates elephant feces. The CSJ asked Professor of Art Michael Davis, who is teaching a seminar this semester titled The Many Faces of Mary: Representing the Virgin, to put Ofili’s piece in context and to comment on the controversy

No, since the Holocaust it has fallen out of favor. But Christians have a long history of murdering Jews because of their ancestors supposedly killed Christ (and for such imagined crimes as killing Christian babies and children for their blood)
