Truth Seeker123,

Do you have pictures of your pastor, or others from your Church? Does your Church have a website? I ask because I’d like to see this website from a Church that doesn’t believe in ANY images. Also, once again, does your Bible have any pictures in it?

Actually, it’s not off topic. There are many Protestant denominations that celebrate Christmas, have pictures of Jesus or crosses mounted inside or outside their Churches. Your condemnation, according to your interpretation, crosses more lines than just Catholic.

I ask about the authority of who explained your interpretation to you, because scriptures teach us the people of the Old Testament had to have an ‘authority’ to explain scriptures to them.

**Nehemiah 8

1And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.

2And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.

3And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.

4And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.

5And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:

6And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

7Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.

8So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.**

It’s not off topic, since you’re explaining an interpretation of scriptures, as you understand it, to us…
Yes those things are done by protestants, but what does this have to do with I’m posting? I know that people aren’t perfect, no matter the denomination. I just want to get your insight on what God forbids.

No for question 1 and why are you bringing up others? I posted scripture, you can argue, but its there. In the glossary.

I don’t see where God forbids ALL images. I understand He doesn’t want us to make images to idolize, images that are false.

Others have brought it up to you, pictures of your family are images. Television produces images, etc. etc… I’d love to see your Church’s website and see that there are no images there. I don’t understand why someone would not want to share their denominational affliation…

Can we please stay on topic? It honestly doesn’t matter what kind of Church any of us attend. The Truth is the Truth, and we can find it in scripture.

So, let’s move on and discuss what’s at hand. The three passages that have been presented on idolatry.

Deuteronomy 4

Romans 1

Exodus 20

Now we have context and if you like, you can compare translations easily.

You are telling us that having images of those who dedicated their lives to God, or submitted fully to his will is forbidden, because ALL images are forbidden, so it’s fair to ask if you have ANY images of others.

Does your Church have a website?

But we do not idolize the images found in the Catholic Church, so why is it ‘off topic’ to ask about other images? It’s either ALL images, or it’s not. I asked about the denomination in hopes I could visit their website and see that there are no images at ALL there.

Well that’s kind of strange. Would you go to someone’s home without identifying yourself? Your’e on a Catholic forum, and obviously not Catholic. Not only would it have been nice for you to introduce yourself and identify your affiliation, but it’s a bit rude for you to have hedged when directly asked.

Are you ashamed of your affiliation? Do you think we wouldn’t like you if you belonged to a particular religion? I assure you, we won’t dislike you due to your religion. There’s nothing to be ashamed of, just tell us what denomination you are affiliated with so that we understand you better and help you to understand us better.

And it’s not off-topic. Who interpreted the scriptures for you is relevent to the topic.

I understand the motivation. I just don’t think that it’s worth the effort in questioning a singular denomination.
If you can justify the Truth through scripture, then why not?

Wish i had more time to continue the conversation. I’ll check in sometime this weekend.

It then becomes a question of authority in interpretations, if we do not agree with each other’s interpretation. Besides that, let’s look at the title of this thread, “You gave it to us…let’s read.”

I’m not wanting to ‘single’ out a particular denomination.

Everyone has images, even if it’s only pictures of family members, which are certainly images of men and women. I asked about denominations and have repeatedly ask if their Church has a website. Surely a Church that teaches against images has no images on their website…

I wasn’t talking about YOU, but in your church. I have seen many images in the likeness of men and women in the catholic church, but God clearly forbids that. That is Scripture. You can read it for yourself.
You’re taking the verses out of context, just like you did in the previous post you started: what is forbidden is having images of idols. We do not have images of idols in our Churches. We have images of Mary, Christ, saints, and even the Heavenly Father. This is not forbidden. We also have images that tell stories: like the stations of the cross, or glimpses of lives of apostles, martyrs or saints. None of that is forbidden.

Life must be hard when your religion forbids you a drivers license.

Truthseeker,

You realize that being here on CAF you’re looking at electronic images right? Are you worshipping your screen?

In fact, as of this post, you yourself have made at least 186 electronic images.

Ooops, maybe you should turn it off now.

I think you are forgetting that those things were instructed by God. But in the verses I posted those things were forbidden by God. If they are forbidden, why are they done?
So wait, if I understand you, graven images are totally condemned by God in all cases…unless he tells us to make them, then they are okay? Seems horribly contradictory to me. If an image of anything is detestable to God, why would he then tell us to make them anyway?

Maybe graven images is not the problem here, but rather the worship of graven images. 🤷

No for question 1 and why are you bringing up others? I posted scripture, you can argue, but its there. In the glossary.
We agree with the verses you posted. They are in the Bible. They were commanded by God. There’s nothing to argue about.

Incidentally, we did not give anybody the KJV.

I DID NOT mention worship. Repeat, I DID NOT mention worship. Those verse say that you should not make images of male or female, or of animal…etc…

That’s what it says. You should not have them. Once again, God instructed those things to be built, but forbids others.
To follow this as you suggest means we should never paint anything. No crosses, no statues, no artful buildings, and heaven forbid you should have a family photo album…

Those are all graven images, and by your logic, all condemned.
