I’ll start:

The other day, I went to the movies. When I got into the theater, I started walking to the other side where there were more seats. When I got to the middle, I stopped and was one second away from genuflecting to the movie screen! I luckily caught myself and laughed as I sat down.

Any experiences you guys have?

Heh, interesting thread.

You know you’re a Traditional Catholic when:

You have the priest over for dinner one night.

And that makes you a traditional Catholic how? Do you really think that those who attend the OF do not have priests over for dinner?

When you bless yourself and say a prayer when an ambulance or fire truck goes by!

when you have any emergency stash of mantillas for yourself or a friend or two in the car for a (just in case) moment.

Well no, but I know that a lot of Catholics tend to invite the Priest over for dinner.

I don’t mean to be too serious in a thread that I realize was started for fun; but…🙂

Being a Traditional Catholic is more than a preference for certain traditional devotions, or even for the Traditional Mass. Being a Traditional Catholics means thinking as the Church has always thought. In other words, being a Traditional Catholic means having the real faith with no admixture of liberalism or modernism which are the errors of our day.

So, how do you know if you are a Traditional Catholic? The answer is simple. You know *for sure *that you are a Traditional Catholic when you can read the pre-Vatican II papal emcyclicals that disucss Liberalism and modernism and find them to be a joy, and an expression of exactly what you still believe. That is how you and I can know if we are Traditional Catholics.

What are some of these enyclicals?

1.) Mortalium Animos, Pius XI

2.) Libertas, Leo XIII

3.) Quanta Cura, Pius IX

4.) Humani Generis, Pius XII

5.) Mirari Vos, Gregory XVI

6.) Pascendi, Pius X

7.) Satis Gognitum, Leo XIII

These are some of the pre-Vatican II encyclicals that condemned many of the modern errors we have today. If you read these enyclicals and think to yourself - YES! 👍 - as you are reading them, then you know you are a Traditional Catholic.

An even better test (since it is more concise) is to read the book Liberalism is a Sin. This books does a very good job in explaining the subtle errors of Liberalism. It is a book that the Liberals of the day hated, and the Pope and Holy Office praised.

When you are snobish enough to call yourself a capital* “*T” traditional catholic. 😉

I guess I’m pretty traditional. But you all consider traditional going to the EF. I’ve only been to one a handful of times, and when I was like 13 and it just so happens this priest would celebrate it everyonce in a while.
But without being “musty” like most capital “T” traditional catholics, I know the OF in Latin, can sing it, sing Gregorian Chant, read and understand sufficient Latin (abilities to date) to translate what I am saying somewhat to the vernacular. I say most of my reciting prayers (rosary, litanies, etc.) in Latin except for the LH.
On the other hand , I hate old vestmests that should be burned, I hate rotten books, I hate people who pray with their head slighty bent to their sides, slouched and do genuflections like they have weak knees, I can’t stand to see women use jean skirts. Why?
What really drives me nuts is to see a OF mass with like a subdeacon/acolyte mixture without of place elements. Geez stop coloring with every crayon in the box. I can’t stand to see priests with cheap cassocks. Buy two decent ones and stop the haloween costumes. And there is the mightly clueless fools who walk around with a saturno up and down Rome. YOU HAVE NOT THE SLIGHTEST SENSE OF DIPLOMACY! And guess what?
THE OLD MASS, STOPING ABORTION AND FARMING IS NOT GOING TO MAKE THE WORLD WHAT IS SHOULD BE!

Being a saint, which is wise and prudent to know when to shine and when to lay low, who knows that to make the Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church triumph in society again, it means playing a game, which the the unflexible one always looses.

Act like a real Catholic! Get that musty capital “T” off you and start being a Catholic!

I hope I this long swing hits the “tee” off perfectly.

Pro Domina. This was supposed to be a light hearted thread. You’ve ruined it. Congratulations, apparently there’s no room for jokes or fun in your spirituality.

You’re being offensive, assuming that we’re “musty” (whatever that means), and then going off into a rant about mixing up subdeacons and acolytes, and getting so petty as to be bothered when someone prays with their head cocked to the side.

It is altogether possible that the capital ‘T’ in tradition was a mistake - one easily made by Catholics especially, as we capitalize the word quite often when we speak about Sacred Tradition.

I say this with all brotherly concern and charity - ease up, and stay out of forums that seem to get you so very angry. They’re apparently near occasions of sin for you.

You know you’re a Traditional Catholic When:

You’re the last one praying the Prayer to St. Michael in the pew after a Novus Ordo.

Your calender has scribbles all over it that say things like “Ember Day!” or “Request off Michaelmas!”

You have to regularly explain why you’re not ordering a burger tonight, when your friend saw you eat one last night (which was Thursday)

Your Christmas decorations are up past New Years

You have holy water in your First Aid kit, along with a blessed candle and a crucifix.

You know you’re a Traditional Catholic when you wonder why a church only has one priest hearing confession.
Code:
When you say the rosary while driving, walking down forest trails, in your backyard etc.

When you see a church with a crucifix in the vestibule, another near the altar, statues of the Sacred Heart, Blessed Mother, St Joseph, St Peter, St Paul, St Francis of Assisi, St Anthony of Padua, St Therese of Lisieux, St Teresa of Avila, St Dominic, St Michael the Archangel and St Gabriel, and you don't think that's alot.

So true 👍

You know you’re a traditional Catholic, when “Conservatives”, tell you that you have a “schismatic spirit”, or are “heading towards” schism. Or, tell you that you MUST attend the Ordinary form to show your “communion” with the Church [sic].

and understand that it is not necessarily the Traditionalist alone who has “NOT THE SLIGHTEST SENSE OF DIPLOMACY!”, and remember the soul in your prayers.

You know you’re a Traditional Catholic when you take Latin lessons so you can understand the Tridentine Mass.

THEY STILL DO CONFESSION???!
😃
LOL! The first time I went to the Latin Mass in Pittsburgh, I was floored by the looooong line waiting to go to confession. I hadn’t seen that in years! We don’t get to go very often, but it’s the same every time we go there. It’s a joyful thing to see!

And - yes - they could use another priest to hear confessions! lol!

You have more scapulars than most Catholic goods stores, in a drawer at home.

You’re family thinks your a little off, but probably harmless.

You’re in-laws (under the age of 80) aren’t so sure about the harmless part.

You’re the only one bowing his head during part of the creed at an OF mass (it could also be argued this makes you the only functionally literate person there, too 🙂
