Sorry, Wilcox. You’ll have to explain.

In what way does the existence of divisive tension provide a faithful justification of…
A new priest asked the Monsignor for an assessment of his performance during Mass.
“Fine,” came the answer. “But there are a few things you should really get straight…
  1. There are ten commandments, not twelve
  2. There are twelve disciples, not ten
  3. We do not refer to Jesus Christ as the late J.C.
  4. Moses parted the Red Sea, he did not pass water
  5. The Pope is consecrated, not castrated, and we don’t refer to him as The Godfather
  6. We do not call Judas “el Finko”
  7. David slew Goliath, he did not kick the s…t out of him
  8. And The Father, Son and Holy Ghost are not now and never have been ‘”Big Daddy, Junior and the Spook’”
I still contend that the fact that the Church has overcome divisive tension is no more of a defence of your divisive slander than the Church surviving child abuse scandals is a defence of child abuse, or than the Church surviving the Protestant Reformation is a defence of Protestant Reforming.

For or against, remember?

It is you who refer to the posting as “divisive slander”.
Your reductive comments I find unwarranted, aimed as they are at my attempted witticism.
Am I expected to apologize for your misunderstanding?

Certainly not, no. No apology to me for anything at all.

Though for slandering the priesthood, and for calling that traditional, for inferring it orthodox? Perhaps some careful reflection would be helpful for you.

You know you’re a traditional Catholic when you…have a hostile and uncharitable attitude toward the clergy that is unpleasant, divisive, and slanderous?

Well, folks. You heard it here first!
Many traditional Catholics don’t have any hostile or uncharitable attitude towards the clergy… in fact, I’d say that traditional Catholics are very respectful of priests, for the most part… also there are many traditional priests, like in FSSP or the Institute of Christ the King.

:thumbsup:Thanks Monica4316

Invictus-88 Are Monsignors not priests?
From your imaginative use of syntax I take it English is not your usual language; but I digress…
There are several threads on CAF to which I contribute, the present one I considered light-hearted relief and banter of a less learned nature.

Monica,

I know and agree. That’s precisely why I find it strange that Wilcox’ nastiness appeared here. On the whole (as I asserted here) traditionalists are supportive of the Church and the clergy.

People seem to be getting confused, so I suppose I ought to have held my tongue, but certainly the joke about the theological literacy of the Monsignor seemed…conspicuous, uncharitable, and divisive.

“Wilcox’ nastiness” - your interpretation, your perception. Unfortunately reflecting the state of your own mind - may I suggest forgiving the people whose action may have resulted in a stilted reading of my posting? And a possible rift forming between ourselves?

Or should we pray “Father forgive us our trespasses for we certainly won’t be forgiving the trespasses of others”?

Oh, come on. That joke was one of harmless pleasure.

The Pope, the Holy Father laments the current state of the Church.
Fact - The Church is divided.
The rift in the Church caused by the Protestant Reformation will never be reconciled. At least by man.The fact that all non Catholic denominations cannot accept the authority of the Pope is the reason for this continuing disunity.Since both parties(the Pope and Luther )were both wrong how can we not conclude that this is the way God wanted it to be?

The rift in the Church was not caused by the Protestant Reformation.

“And he said, 'That which comes out of the man, that defiles the man,
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride foolishness:
All these evil things come from within, and defile the man” (Mk 7:20-23)

The Catholic Church is a House divided within itself. That it is not brought to desolation is one sure sign the Church is the Work of God (Matt 12:25)

Back to the more light-hearted side of this thread:

You know you’re a traditional catholic when…

One day…out of the blue…you find yourself learning many different prayers …in Latin!!.
I do this and I’m not Catholic…

…yet!

Having a Catholic priest as a Latin tutor probably had an effect on me.

Passing a church, a five-year-old asked his grandfather “Who lives there?” His grandfather replied, “God does.” The child cautiously opened the door to look in, peered through the windows back and front then came to report, “I couldn’t see Him, but I know he’s there 'cos his bike’s around the back.”

You get upset because the “ladies” bicycle you were given is only for non-skirt wearing ladies…
🙂 This. It takes some maneuvering to get away with a skirt on a bicycle, but it’s worth it in the end. (Yay skirts!)

It’s interesting to note, however, that it’s not restricted to Catholics. I was quite a skirt advocate during my ancient-Greek-pagan days as well. Common thing, from what I saw.

(Hope it’s ok I posted. Not Catholic yet, but I hope to be soon. 🙂 )

You know you’re a Traditional Catholic when…

You sing Vidi Aquam in the shower.

wear a head covering at Mass,go out of your way to find an EF Mass, and hang religious pictures on your walls.

You say “DOGMA!” and the “conservative” Catholics say “RADICAL!”

Or, when you say “ordinary magisterium”, and they all say “Majority of Theologians!”

🤷
