YouCat and masturbation

I was trying to give alternate names to call a guide that helps one to understand the CCC, other than “YouCat”. I don’t expect anyone to call something like “The Catholic’s Catechismal (I did make up that word) Reference” the full name every time they mention it. What I am trying to present is that one is more likely to take something called the CCR seriously than something called the “YouCat”. In fact, most teens would think you were referring to something akin to “lolCat” or “standing Cat” or even “OMG Cat”.

DAAVEED1590 your point is well taken. The title is important. I recall around 1970 a Catholic textbook called “I am with you” . Great news God is with us! The Malankara Catholic Church has written a text for each school year with sensible titles:
first grade: GLORY TO GOD
second grade: GLORY TO THE TRIUNE GOD
third grade: GLORY TO JESUS CHRIST
fourth grade: GLORY TO THE MERCIFUL GOD
fifth grade: GOD, THE CREATOR
sixth grade: GOD WHO PRESERVES
seventh grade: GOD WHO SAVES
eighth grade: THE WORSHIPPING COMMUNITY
ninth grade: THE LIVING COMMUNITY
A book each school year with the Malankara Catholic Catechism.

The problem is the sentence is completely meaningless. Demonize is a ridiculous word, so extreme as to actually be an apology for implying that maybe masturbation is wrong, but we can’t tell you how wrong, only not to trivialize it. This is not helpful to anyone regarding whether or not to masturbate and how serious it is. As the OP said, this sentence could be particularly confusing for teens who have strong urges, and cause them more turmoil or confusion (or less, because it can be interpreted either way). I wonder either a bad translation or an attempt to alleviate guilt instead of clarify sin, which is a terrible problem now in the Church. Anyway, this sentence also happens to not comply with Church teaching.
