The human imagination is powerful; it can make you see anything. It is a good thing the Church cautions us against superstition.
 
It could conceivably look like someone wearing a hood that is much too loose. But lots of people wear hoods. Why would you say it looks like Mary any more than, say, a monk, or the grim reaper?
 
The face looks feminine to me and it definitely doesn’t look like the grim reaper.
 
This is sooooo silly it’s actually sad. And some idiot will buy it. I don’t know whether to condem the seller or just say the buyer is stupid.

Do we say they had Mary on the brain ? 😛
 
Yes, that type of appearance is know as a Miraculous Revelation Image, or MRI for short 😛
 
I’ve always been taught to try and see the hand of God in everything (case in point that poem “I See His Blood Upon the Rose”), so it’s an added bonus, I think, when we can actually SEE the work of His hand in an unexpected place.

Wasn’t there some neurophysiologist who discovered an area in the brain that he dubbed “the God spot” since, on a functional MRI, this particular knot of brain neurons would show an incredible level of activity if the person having the MRI was praying? I wonder if this is somehow related…
